Mornings
Short fic inspired by @la-loom‘s baker au!
The shop was normally as dark as the sky when Victor arrived. That morning, however, a warm light shone through the small window facing the parking lot.
Victor slipped in quietly, shrugging off his raincoat and into his apron as he peered around the corner.
Yuuri sat at the decorating counter holding a bag of white icing, his back facing the door. He held the bag steady, sweeping it in small arcs as he rotated the cake before him, the warm lamp beside him casting golden shadows across his shoulders and into his hair.
It was a small accent cake for the Giacometti wedding. Victor panicked when he realized this. He didn’t normally allow anyone he so recently hired to decorate the wedding cakes. But as he approached Yuuri, his panic turned into awe.
Intricate flowers and leaves bloomed across the cake, clean and symmetric. The icing flowed from the tip of Yuuri’s piping bag quickly but with precision.
Victor had never seen anything quite like it.
“That’s beautiful, Yuuri.” The words escaped him in a whisper as he leaned farther over Yuuri’s shoulder.
Only when Yuuri’s piping tip pierced into the cake forming an angry welt in the intricate design, did Victor notice that his lips were only inches from the smooth skin on Yuuri’s neck.
Victor winced, then leaned in closer.
