Though the 20th anniversary of her murder passed on March 16th. let's take a moment to consider the life of Latasha Harlins. As one of many events that contributed to the 1992 Los Angeles rebellion. The sorrow and anger of a community festered for a young girl who was shot and killed by Soon Da Ju while attempting to buy an orange juice. Rather than contribute to ideas of Black and Korean tensions one must look to state systems of oppression, perceived criminality and the devaluing of Black life for the reasons Soon Da Ju was given a lessor sentence while attempting to sweep the entire incident out of the medias eye. 20 years ago and we are still remembering our young ones shot down without a second glance. As we March, type, and post do it for Latasha Harlins as we do it for #TrayvonMartin.
