The Forensic Lab-on-a-Disc is an advanced centrifugal microfluidic platform designed to enhance sperm cell purification in forensic differential extraction workflows. By replacing the conventional sperm separation step, this technology significantly improves male DNA enrichment from mixed biological samples, particularly in challenging sexual assault evidence.
Using centrifugal force combined with dual-membrane tangential flow filtration (10 µm and 1 µm pore sizes), the system enables rapid (~6 minutes), semi-automated separation of sperm cells from epithelial lysates and debris.
