Seasonal Job Searches vs Openings 2025 | What Holiday Hiring 2025 Looks Like
Interest in seasonal work is climbing fast, but available roles aren’t keeping up.
As of September, searches for holiday jobs are 27% higher than 2024 and 50% above 2023 levels, while seasonal job postings have increased by just 2.7%. This growing mismatch is setting the stage for one of the most competitive holiday hiring seasons in recent years.
Retail continues to dominate seasonal hiring, accounting for 63% of available roles. At the same time, only 2.1% of postings are marked “urgently hiring”, a sharp drop from 10% in 2021 - signaling slower hiring momentum despite rising candidate interest.
For hiring teams, this means managing larger applicant volumes with fewer openings. For job seekers, it means moving faster, preparing smarter, and standing out earlier in the process.
This visual breakdown highlights the widening gap between seasonal job searches and openings in 2025 - and what it means for both recruiters and candidates heading into the holiday rush.
