I finally finished Lacrimore recently (it's very good). I have so many questions about the world and it's wildlife. I won't annoy you with too many, but how big are the Thornfish? Am I right in assuming they aren't something found in the waters off the mainland, or are they a common creature?

A lot of the weird lake fauna, including thornfish, aren’t found in the waters off the mainland. They basically get bigger and odder the closer they are to the center, (and thus farther away from human habitation and more within Lacrimore’s Weird Influence). Technically there are fish that are similar to them closer to the mainland that are much smaller and devoid of certain deformations, but that makes them unrecognizable. Thornfish vary in size from 4ft-30ft depending on how old they are.

worldbuilding question! (please ignore this if you're uncomfortable/don't want to answer.) i'm curious about grooming practices in lacrimore. eg: is shaving expected of certain genders? what soap and perfume/cologne scents are trendy, if any?

Thank you!While the society can be very specific about the sort of clothing people wear (i.e. if they’re in certain occupations or societal positions there is definitely stylistic parts of dress people are expected to adhere to that’s independent of personal taste) that doesn’t extend to personal grooming too much. Stuff like shaving body hair is definitely not a thing, but if someone wore the wrong color they might get looked at askance.

Perfume doesn’t really exist as an art form or is seen as part of personal grooming either. The scents that exist are simple extracts of specific herbs and flowers, that are used more in a customary way for certain events or circumstances rather than in the day to day.

@zwartezwaluw requested tourist/travel wear for Van with the clothing game--wanted to do what he was wearing when he was exiled and got CARRIED AWAY. The boats that go across the lake have all these plants hangin off of them that are meant to discourage the things that live in there from getting too close. They aren’t very effective but people still feel safer having them.

so whats the main religion called, is it highly structured like the catholic church or...? is it the Official Religion of the government in the country they are in, and what about other countries

I just go with ‘spiritualism’ for now, since I’m already using language like ‘mediums’ and whatnot. Maybe I’ll come up with a name at some point, but TODAY IS NOT THAT DAY. It’s not as structured as the catholic church, but there is a somewhat monastic quality to the training and lifestyle of mediums. The training is more like a mentorship with a senior figure though, rather than an established hierarchy with rigid positions. It’s the official religion of the government of the region they’re in, but, like my very unsatisfying amorphous answer to the earlier question about language, there are surely other religious practices happening in...places beyond the fog of my narrative. I don’t think it’s like...a global religion. But since the story is going to be set exclusively within the bottle of this house, there’s not gonna be...too much development in areas outside that bottle.
