Lactasia
I can't remember exactly when I learned that I am Lactose Intolerant. For those who doesn't know, Lactose Intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and to a lesser extent milk-derived dairy products. Lactose intolerant individuals have insufficient levels of lactase, the enzyme that metabolizes lactose into glucose and galactose, in their digestive system. In most cases this causes symptoms such as abdominal bloating and cramps, flatulence, diarrhea, nausea, borborygmi (rumbling stomach), or vomiting after consuming significant amounts of lactose. (Source: Wikipedia)
Actually, I rly don't know if it's only lactase that I lack of or also those enzymes that my body needs for digestion. I have a very, very, very sensitive tummy and when I say sensitive, it is far worse than you can imagine. Those symptoms above, yes, I've experienced all of them except for vomiting. (Still lucky eh?)
During HS and college, I am used to having this thing. It didn't stop me from eating anything I want. But now that I'm working, I'm starting to get bothered and realized that this is actually a curse. I almost always have IBS. Sometimes, even a small amount of cheese can make my stomach go wild. I even concluded that this can be one of the reasons why it is really hard for me to gain weight. Well, that is from no scientific basis.
My friendly friend nurse told me that Lactasia has unfortunately no cure. And that means that I have to suffer with this for my whole lifetime. Huhu (Am I starting to sound that this condition is ) Well, actually I've done my research already for any cure, treatment or such. And the easiest way is "Go Lactose free". Makes sense. Err. I just don't like something to control my diet. I eat what I want, period.
Oh well, I know it's best to talk to a doctor. I'll find time someday. =)
