can I ask why Like A Dead Horse is so important to you emotionally? No pressure to share, of course.

it's okay to ask -- i dont want to share too much, because it's not my story to tell, but i lost a dear friend to addiction about three months into writing it. for better or for worse, a lot of my grief got tangled into the story. he was never and will never be an inspiration for it -- there's a line i won't cross in regard to fiction and reality -- but the timing made the feelings in it all the more raw. it's special to me in that it helped me work through some of my own feelings about that loss and everything that led up to it.

i miss him every day.
