The USA were just not on form during the Free. Still not loving the Tutu skirt on either of Zagitova costumes. Honestly the skirt keep distracting me from the performance. Still not loving her overall performance either. Not going to say her pure technical elements aren't good but as noted, her transitions and such are lackluster at best. Maybe it's just me but I would have rated her interpretation of the music much lower. Evgenia should've gotten more on her PCS.
The USA Ladies haven’t shown up to a competition in a long-ass time…so it wasn’t surprising. I’m just thankful Mirai showed up to the Team Event, where she had a chance of helping win a medal, because she deserves it after all she went through to get to the Olympics.
I find the tutu skirts very distracting on ice, and I think they help camouflage some of Zagitova’s weaknesses as a skater by flapping around. I think both of her programs are rather surface performances that rely on a lot of “showy” moves to disguise her lack of maturity. I’d like to see her skate something appropriate to a fifteen year old, honestly.
It’s several days later and I still think Evegenia was robbed.

I like tutus. But...I feel SO sad for Medvedeva. She is superior to Zag in components, Zag is superior to her in TES. Watching the final, when Zhenya was performing, all beautiful and that, I felt something missing from her. And whe she finished she was crying bcs she knew it wasn't good enough for gold. Her face was all deception even before knowing the score and watching her crying so emotionally broke my heart. Still, is it just me or smthing was really missing when she skated?
I know this is very belated, but life got a little hectic after this event (and I was staying up way too late to watch the events for the entirety of the Olympics…WHOOPS).
Yes, I think Evegenia was missing her usual fire, passion, and freedom. The whole performance was beautiful, but the artistry was tending toward going through the motions more than her usual “living it” style. It happened much more in the short, but was still present in the long program. I feel like she held back a part of herself that could have gained those last points she needed to win.
Honestly, I think Zagitova got in her head and, since losing at Europeans was the first time Evegenia’s lost in a crazy amount of time (two years, or something) it was hard for her to overcome. I think this loss will be even harder :(
