she’ll know.

one of these days,   one of these times the king found himself still  spilling  blood  with his title.   no amount of bickering  &  begging would stop that.   at the end of the day,   it was his job,   wasn’t it ??     HEAVY  weigh  the crown  &  its responsibilities,    stained from bloodied fingerprints of the  LIVES  it has taken.   only to be washed,   polished,   for lyra’s eyes.

but words  lies,   spoken no louder than a whisper,   came from him early on:     ❝  that  isn’t  me  anymore,   trust in me while i say that.  ❞      like a broken band-aid over an open wound,   it was a  PAINFUL  &  temporary solution.   something to make that nagging that keeps  pinching  at that little part of your brain shut up.   a  lie.    an empty comfort to the  one  person he managed to keep trick into staying around.

she knows.

she knows she should not have stayed.   that it would cause more harm than good,   for anyone involved.   why did she,   then ??     because she was so painstakingly set on seeing something.    seeing some good,   &   she had.   the  thought  of such good often overshadowed the mere  IDEA  of  loki.   king of jotunheim.   since when was  GOOD  associated with that name ??    surely  every body  howled in dispute at that,   &   they kept coming.

so why ruin the good image the   one   person who  believed  in you had ??

even up until the last  finger  gesture  to be beheaded  was given,   his  own  people protested against him.   to  KILL  a stray asgardian whom had gotten lost,   begged for their life,   &   done nearly no wrong besides trespass with a weapon  —  it would be war.   he never turned down the idea of that,    though.   

she knows.

what he had done,   what he had  BEEN  doing the whole time even after sweet words had serenaded her clouded mind.    how much of a fool,   a pushover,   could she be ??    to even have  CONSIDERED   for a moment a future with him.   a  murderer.   WAR  STARTER.   the healer,   unable to avert her eyes at the sight,   witnesses the death of one of her people.    one  screaming  &  crying for forgiveness,   even.   and  the axe  dropped.

she had seen death,   WHY,   she worked alongside Her.   it still petrified her,   more so those who gave to Her every need.   who killed without reason,   without thought.   those who  KNOWINGLY  start wars that  will end with nothing but bloodshed. 

HE  KNOWS.

was it the soft gasp from around the corner,   or that feeling ??     the impending dread that she had seen.   that   THE CROWN  still was stained.   perhaps it was someone else,   he mused,   yet the dark forest green swish of fabric that came from round that corner  proved  otherwise.

now  WHAT  was it about   her   that made him believe he would see a  SINGLE  OUNCE  of hatred ,    of  eagerness to   H U R T    him ,   inside of   her ??     since the moment they had met ,     lyra had offered nothing but her aid .     sure ,     there were arguments and banter   but her words were never meant to harm .
