Ohoho, the ot3. You know I love talking about the ot3. In terms of dynamic (and as is always the case), Retvja makes everything a little more straightforward. He doesn't really have time for nonsense in the way Aubrey and Lysander do, and he's... decidedly less dramatic about everything.

That said, he's also very, very baffled that the two people he loves most in the world seem to want to pull him into a romantic relationship. Especially as he's pretty certain Lysander is unhealthily obsessed with Damas. (He's not wrong; he's just missed that Lysander is also unhealthily obsessed with him as well.)

I think the key to the ot3 dynamic is that Retvja and Aubrey are childhood friends, whereas Lysander and Retvja are adult friends.

Retvja and Lysander in some ways have a day to day closer relationship that Aubrey and Retvja - they spend most of their time together, they both work towards the same purpose (i.e. their Aubrey-related duties), and Retvja is the one who actually did most of the hard work when it came to teaching Lysander practical things like how to fight.

However, while they are both softer with Aubrey than they are with each other, they're also both very aware that Aubrey Draxios is a dangerous creatures who will absolutely protect them to the best of his ability. So they try to behave themselves. They also dote on Damas, and try to find ways to coddle him without him realising it.

All of that means Lysander and Retvja have an unspoken agreement to not cause enough trouble that Damas will start burning down worlds, and Damas has an unspoken agreement with Lysander and Retvja that he will allow them to get away with anything (up to and including murder).

I also think Damas is a little insecure because he thinks (to start with) that his relationship with the two of them isn't as strong as it is with each other, which results in his usual Damas Avoidance System.

Anyway, here's a snippit:

"When did he turn into such a brat?" Retvja asks in disbelief, as Lysander glares at him.

"I can hear you, 'Vja."

"An unmanageable, irritating, stubborn -"

"I will bite you." Lysander bares his teeth. "It'll hurt."

"Please don't bite him," Damas interjects tiredly. "I cannot explain to the council again why my High Commander and his Second are sporting teeth marks in front of the court." He tilts his head back and closes his eyes. "Besides, if anyone should be doing the biting, it's me. I have had to put up with four hours of land disputes today. If it had taken half an hour more, someone's head was going to roll."

'Vja hums thoughtfully. He sneaks a hand across and, as Lysander watches, carefully tucks a strand of gold back behind Damas's ear. "Jarvik Inidsin causing problems again? And no," he adds, as Lysander opens his mouth, "you can't bite him either."

U can tell ppl they’re not allowed to be confused or distrustful after thousands of people died in NYC because the government lied about the efficacy if masks & then suddenly changed their tune & started mocking ppl not in masks... but that’s all you accomplish. No one changes because ladyrevealedofcloak says according to their watch it’s time. Waste ur energy & be a judgmental dick, I really don’t care, tho.

They didn’t lie about the efficiency of the masks. They are not 100% effective, and with the ppe shortage, they didn’t want the hoarders buying up all the masks, like they did with toilet paper and food. But as time went on, and the virus got worse, they changed their tune.

And yes, I will mock people who don’t wear a mask. It’s been months since They’ve changed their tune. Months. Not weeks, not a few days, months. As we’re watching infection numbers rise, hospitals reaching the brink and not being able to accept more patients, more cooling trucks for the massive number of bodies while more dumb ass right wing politicians risking human life to reopen the economy, there is no reason not to do the basic thing and just wear one or some covering when you’re out and about. Now you have these idiots talking about wearing the masks causes them to breathe in c02 and they make fake medical condition cards so they don’t have to wear one. In the middle of a pandemic, where almost every other country, has started getting it under control, America’s numbers still rise.

I will continue to mock them. Until things change. Thanks for the message though. And if you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have said anything.

One of my favorite things about Taash is specifically how emotionally immature and raw they are, how their general approach to life is the direct clobbering of issues, and how anything more complex than that is internalized and projected in a very overt, almost teenage way. Even the way they immediately zero in on Solas "not making things right" with Mythal and that being something that twists you up. Same with Emmrich's practice, same with Neve's femininity,

And then, crucially, despite that rigidity in processing trauma and emotions, the game goes out of its way to say that they STILL get to receive grace in their struggle of arriving at the complicated truths about themselves, that they still deserve and are worth of a full, happy, self-actualized existence. That interrogating and finding identity isn't some vapid, high-brow crusade of intellectualism, but something that is essential and critical to every single living soul.

This, in a nutshell, is why I love Taash and what they did with them.

it's been a horribly frustraiting, disheartening time trying to filter out and avoid all the outright hate & misconceptions the vast majority of this fandom seems to be harbouring for them. & for the stupidest of reasons too.

to me they are an incredibly touching character. they clearly have a lot of heart, though they aren't always able to express it properly. and i feel like majority of the people don't even try to understand them. which is just. sad. they are missing out on trully experiencing such a wonderful story of growing into "your" true self, reconciling with a troubled relationship with a parent (which touched me personally so, so deeply) and what a supportive, open-minded circle of people can do for a person...

trully Taash deserves all the love. & dragons to fight. & shiny things ofc.

I've got to be honest lovely anon, the arranged marriage AU is definitely the second one to be written on my list (right after the Oedipus Complex!AU). I have had waaaaay too much fun thinking about it!

(Is Aubrey going to be happy about it? No. No he is not.)

what are some habits, quirks, patterns etc that your couples have picked up from each other in their long relationship? do they notice it, and is the realization sudden or gradual? thanks!

Hmm, this is a good question, lovely anon!

Samiel and Jay: Samiel has picked up a little of Jay's way of thinking - he will take a bit more time to analyse a situation now before he jumps straight in. He also starts to relax around the home a little - he leaves things out rather than fastidiously tidying everything away! Jay in contrast has picked up Samiel's habit of wrinkling his nose when he finds something distasteful - he's always been very careful of his expressions (thanks to his job), but from time to time he now accidentally mimics Samiel's look of derision. I think he's also picked up a few Lenian sayings that he uses in everyday conversation without realising it.

Hess and Dan: Hess has (grudgingly) aligned himself with Dan's tea-drinking habits in the morning. It starts out as a courtesy (because Dan makes him a morning cuppa, but Hess prefers coffee), but grows into a habit. Dan has picked up a little of Hess's coldness, I think. He's a little more distant from people, and it comes from absorbing some of Hess's more cynical, cautious outlook. (He's also picked up some accidental Antichrist powers but, uh, we don't talk about that...)

Lysander and Aubrey: Lysander has picked up Aubrey's habit of catnapping in the sunshine, but only if he gets to catnap on top of someone (we all know who). He's also picked up on Aubrey's habit of fidgeting without realising - twirling a pen, absently smoothing someone else's hair, absently drumming his fingers. Aubrey has picked up Lysander's habit of moving meditation (it starts as a necessity to teach Lysander, and becomes Aubrey's own touchstone of control and comfort as well). He also tends to keep windows open wherever he goes to keep the temperature cooler (the way Lysander prefers) without even realising it!
