The Beautiful Temple
And so, as our time ran short, a few members of our little gang made a plea for one more temple. Our leader consented to a quick tour through Banteay Srei, the Lady Temple.
When we arrived we moved through quickly despite the heat. Everywhere we turned elegant architecture and intricate etchings met our eyes. As we wandered through we tried to draw in the experiences and enjoy our final temple of the trip.
Once we were done we hopped back on our little bus, packed our bags at the hotel, and set off to return all the way back to Phnom Penh.

Osborne was born at Chicksands Priory in Bedfordshire into a noble family. She resisted intense pressure from her family to marry suitors chosen by them, instead carrying on a seven-year courtship with William Temple. This clandestine relationship was embodied in the letters Osborne wrote to Temple. These are widely regarded as being socially progressive and reveal much about society of the day, full of wit and insight. Osborne married William Temple in 1654.
Scattered references in the letters indicate that Osborne was keenly involved in her husband's diplomatic career and matters of State. Sir William's career posted the couple abroad for periods of their married life, including time in both Brussels (in the Spanish Netherlands) and the Dutch Republic. Temple was Ambassador in The Hague twice, latterly during the marriage negotiations of William and Mary.
In 1671 Charles II used Dorothy to provoke the Third Anglo-Dutch War by letting her on 24 August sail through the Dutch fleet on the royal yacht Merlin, demanding to be saluted with white smoke.
Osborne's close friendship with Mary II lasted until the Queen's death in 1694.
