The second dance - the Viennese Waltz. Although Edmund had somewhat promised this one to Ernest an hour or so prior, he could obviously not have guessed that Ernest was to dance with her Royal Highness, thus rendering him unable to scribble out her name on his dance card, as Edmund had suggested. That did not stop him from nearly drowning in jealousy, that is.
Still, the next dance was intriguing for Edmund, seeing as he was paired with the Black Swan. Oh, how terribly exicting he’d found it when the three ladies had entered the ballroom masked! How terribly excited amd eager he was to find out their identity. He approached his partner, bowing to her in greeting, a curious smile on his lips. “It truly is an honour to share the Waltz with you, one of the mystery ladies.” Though, Edmund thought, he would get the truth about her identity out soon enough. How thrilling it all was.
They moved into the starting position and, as they now found themselves closer to one another, Edmund’s curious smile shifted into a somewhat suspicious frown. “Something about this is off.”, he remarked, attempted to study her masked features. “You seem quite familiar. Have we met before?”
