Dream of Lady Devonshire’s puppies dressed like Lady Merialeth, Lady Blackwood, Lady Starsong, and yourself. See them having tea at the Lady’s house.— theladydevonshire
Elnias had just finished pouring the ladies their tea, a small tea-towel draped neatly over his arm as he set the teapot down in the middle of the table. “The Lady has asked me to inform the four of you that she will be with you shortly. Please do enjoy your tea.”
Excitement coursed around the room. Naivaria knew that she should have suggested wine too; after all, what kind of dress-designing party would this be without a little bit of loosening up? Next to her Lady Ashfall made a noise, and as she looked over she saw the little corgi–dressed in an elegant ice-blue gown–daintily lapping tea from her cup. It had been an approving noise, and after taking a drink of her own tea she understood why. Elnias had broken out the good stuff. Her sigh came out as a little whine, and her butt wiggled with her stubby tail, rustling the little shawl that she had draped across her back to fend off the cold.
Lady Blackwood made a yipping comment across the table, which caused Lady Starsong to bark a little laugh in return. It had been a compliment to the tea, and then Lady Starsong was complimenting Lady Blackwood’s magnificent blouse, and the latter returning the compliment toward Aeviara’s own pink dress. Naivaria sat on her haunches, quietly observing the three ladies with a calm contentment that dissipated just as soon as Elnias brought out a tray of the tastiest looking biscuits that she had ever seen, shaped like adorable little bones. Oh, she couldn’t wait, and as soon as they were on the table she realized that neither could the others, and the four of them bumped tiny snouts as they rushed the tray.Almost as soon as the four of them had wiggled their way back to their spots, Lady Devonshire appeared in the doorway. “Ladies, I do believe we’ve some work to do,” she called out, and all four pups rose to their paws–Naivaria pausing to lap up the last of her tea before skittering after the others with her tongue lolling from the side of her little maw.Naivaria woke with a start, face-down and drooling into her pillow. Slowly she opened her eyes, the pre-dawn grey that filtered in through the window alerting her to the early hour. The dream was still vivid in her mind, and as she slowly rose to sit in a pool of blankets she rubbed at her forehead, and then felt at her face and looked at her hands. “What in the world…” she muttered. Had there been something in the air at that fashion show last night? She certainly had not imbibed…Rising to her feet, she went about getting ready for the day, but several thoughts chased themselves in circles in her head. Shaking it vigorously, she tried to dispel them from her mind as she trudged downstairs in search of the kitchen, determined not to suggest that Lady Devonshire name the remaining puppies after the women when Five came barreling down the hall to greet her with an excited series of yips and barks and whines–especially since at least one of them was male. No, that was entirely too silly an idea to speak aloud. A dress-designing party, however…theladydevonshire | lady-blackwood | aeviaras | merialeth
