The Whitman series by ladygray99. In particular parts 1 and two: The Modern Man I Sing, and Sing My Body Electric.

This has been sitting in my open tabs since I went on my mini Numb3rs fic binge. It was one of those fics (series in this case) that kind of sits around waiting for the right time to read it. In this case, good/stable headspace is necessary (read the tags and warnings people, this one’s awesome but fraught for those with certain triggers.) and that was apparent from the moment I picked out the fic - noted in the tags and with heavy implications in the summary for the first story in the series. 

The idea is a very interesting one, for me personally the reaction to mental strain is fascinating - I certainly have my own strange and self destructive quirks, although not nearly as physical as Charlie’s is in this fic. And the background/reasoning for is thorough. It creates a very compelling character, no feeling of ‘I just wanted it like this, so it will be’. I think that’s why I like it so much, the exploration of human nature in a reasonably logical/understandable way.

So yeah, Numb3rs is awesome and this podfic got me back into the fandom - and to marathon the first season... Because really, what’s better than Charlie being the math tutor to the mob at Princeton. It’s a casefic, based around the OC mob boss, so warnings for canon typical descriptions of crime and crime solving, but note the victims are all children, and it’s serial killings made to look like accidents. 

Also, illegal but hilarious pranks and shenanigans. This fic is really good at making you laugh and then want to cry, and making them all human - also Charlie with a mustache, can’t forget that.
