The logic behind thinking that not having kids is selfish is really lacking. With all the countless reasons someone could not be having kids, by choice or not, how can you just toss around the accusation that they're selfish?
If there's a horse in dire need of a new home, am I selfish for not adopting him? I live in a rental in town with a little yard. I don't have enough disposable income to afford a horse. I know the care and attention horses need, and that's why I know I can't---nor do I want to---provide for one. I like horses, but I know I should not try to adopt one. I could name 50 reasons why I will not adopt that horse and most sensible people will understand and support my decision.
So why is it different for having kids? They need plenty of space, 100% of your attention and care, they're very expensive, and on and on and on. I can make a sound and solid list of... forget 50, more like 100 reasons why I don't want to have kids. And despite it all, I will still get told that it's a selfish decision.
I think it's much more selfish to have a kid to fulfill yourself, to prove something to people in your life, or to expect the kid to take care of you so you don't die alone. At least if I adopted the horse, I wouldn't be doing it for any of those reasons.
