the book is just an in-depth synopsis and analysis of the film Xala by Ousmane Sembene. Fardon gives more context of Senegal to better understand the film - like the political and social issues in Senegal at the time, religious understandings, and even some definitions of the words used in the film. pretty good book if you want to learn a little more about Senegal, and Sembene’s critiques and commentaries of that time.
