There were rumors that one of the Orthodoxy officials was trying to restart the civil war in Eisen by secretly funding the Swordbearers. Geist knew this had to be bad news. Another civil war in Eisen was not what anyone wanted. However, this particular official had such good word with so many people in and out of the Orthodoxy.
And they didn’t even know if these rumors were true. And so they were debating it right now.
“Whether these rumors are true or not,” Kamiizumi voiced with a surprising calm, “I believe this individual should be investigated for anything even remotely related to the Swordbearers. If this is overlooked, it could mean needless death and destruction in Eisen, and I’d like to prevent that from happening.”
“That’s quite a bit coming from you,” One of the other Orthodoxy officials snarled, looking to the Swordmaster, “Given that you were a key commander in the last civil war! How do we know that you’re truly against the Swordbearers this time around? What if you’re working with them, too?”
Geist frowned, looking to said Orthodoxy official. “How dare you accuse him of such! Kamiizumi cut all ties with the Swordbearers after the end of the last civil war. He has no reason to collaborate with them again—he only did so on behalf of the Duchy during the last civil war. This is one of our own officials we are talking about here!”
The Exorcist had to control his desire to cut up the man in an instant. Even if he’d returned to the Orthodoxy, Geist was sure that he could cut up the fool in a heartbeat. But he couldn’t. He swore he wouldn’t, after he’d prayed to the Crystal and returned to her grace.
And Pope Agnes...what would Her Holiness say?
