In Greek mythology, the Laestrygonians are a race of man-eating giants. Several sources, including the historians Thucydides and Polybius, state that they once inhabited southern Sicily.
The Laestrygonians most notable appearance is in Homer's Odyssey, in which they devour many of Odysseus' men and destroy eleven of his twelve ships by hurling rocks from the shore.
