Lafeber Pellet Berries Recall
From the company's Facebook page:
"Pellet Berries Recall
Much to our surprise and disappointment, our Pellet-Berries packaging has experienced an unexpected malfunction even with our strict quality control.
We’ve had two reported cases of mold out of 53,299 Pellet-Berries tubs sold in the past two years (in both cases, the birds did not consume the Pellet-Berries). Both cases were reported to us late last week.
After an internal investigation prompted by these two cases, we have learned that dust from the Pellet-Berries could interfere with the seal on some of the tubs. If the seal was not proper, air could enter the tub if the temperature or air pressure changed significantly. In rare cases, the air that entered the tub could bring excess moisture which could cause mold to form.
While this is a rare occurrence, it is too much of a risk for our beloved feathered friends.
To ensure the health of all birds who eat Pellet-Berries, we are recalling all Pellet-Berries and will issue a refund or send replacement product once we receive the product that you purchased. The Pellet-Berries recall includes all sizes 12.5 oz for Parakeet, Cockatiel, and Parrot and 3.5 lbs for Parrots. To organize a refund or replacement, please email us at [email protected] or call us at 1-800-842-6445. The new Pellet-Berries will be available in two weeks in bags instead of tubs. We will be posting updates here: https://lafeber.com/pet-birds/pellet-berries-recall/
No Nutri-Berries or Avi-Cakes or Pellets or any other Lafeber products are involved with this recall.
We appreciate your many years of trusting us with your beloved birds’ health and nutrition. We continue to create products that nourish your feathered family members and reinforce the integrity that you have come to rely on from Lafeber Company."
This only affects Pellet Berries, and this is not an issue with the food itself. Other varieties of Lafeber food products are unaffected.
Don't panic over this. If you have Pellet Berries, most likely they are fine, but better safe than sorry to get a refund.
