Sanctuary Cities bill: the Governor's “concerns”
Did you see this? Governor Edwards says he has “concerns” about sanctuary cities legislation. As you probably know, our state legislature is considering legislation to crack down on cities that do not enforce federal laws regarding illegal immigration. These cities create sanctuaries in Louisiana for illegals and put our communities in danger. These cities instruct our police officers to ignore the laws they have a duty to enforce. Attorney General Jeff Landry is dedicated to upholding the Rule of Law—plain and simple. But Governor Edwards has “concerns” about the effect this legislation will have on New Orleans, which became a Sanctuary City in February. What it comes down to is this—Governor Edwards doesn't think New Orleans should have to comply with federal immigration law. Governor Edwards also has “concerns” that the legislation gives the Attorney General too much power. A provision in the bill asks the AG to produce an opinion about whether a city's laws and policies make it a Sanctuary City. Writing legal opinions is the Attorney General's job—a job to which the people of Louisiana overwhelmingly elected Jeff Landry. Governor “Dishonor Code” Edwards should not attempt to strip power from other duly elected officials. Instead, his “concerns” should be with his oath of office—he swore to uphold the law, and sanctuary cities are openly violating federal law. Moreover, the Governor's main concern should be with enforcing the laws he swore to uphold.

Landrieu Tries to Claim Credit for Cassidy's Work... Again
With her back up against the wall and her time in the Senate quickly dwindling, Senator Landrieu has gone to an old play in her playbook – take credit for something Bill Cassidy did first. Landrieu wants the Senate to, finally, pass a bill to build the Keystone XL Pipeline – a bill identical to one authored by Dr. Bill Cassidy. Of course, The Hill is reporting that Landrieu demands credit for it. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Landrieu similarly tries to take credit for flood insurance reform, even though that law was passed as the Grimm-Cassidy amendment. One thing is clear – with a track record that includes voting for President Obama’s agenda 97 percent of the time, months of inaction on the Keystone XL Pipeline and stalled offshore drilling revenue sharing reform, Mary Landrieu would rather take credit for someone else’s accomplishments than her own. “Instead of leading for Louisiana on key issues like the Keystone Pipeline, flood insurance, and revenue sharing reform, Senator Landrieu just wants to claim responsibility for other people’s work. It’s obvious why – her own record puts her well outside the mainstream of Louisiana and reflects the Washington, D.C. values she has picked up over the last 17 years of living away from our state.” – Jason Doré, LAGOP executive director
Cassidy Contrast With Landrieu Clear
Tonight's U.S. Senate debate made one thing crystal clear: the contrast between Congressman Bill Cassidy and Obama rubber stamp Mary Landrieu couldn't be more distinct.
While Landrieu spent the evening trying to spin her terrible track record as a sure-thing vote for the President's failed agenda, Congressman Cassidy laid out a vision for the future and explained the importance of Louisiana for bringing a change in leadership to the Senate.
Senator Landrieu doubled down on her support for ObamaCare and continued to claim her "clout" helps the energy industry - even though her support of anti-energy members of the Senate and lockstep support for President Obama's agenda undermine Louisiana's interests.
"Tonight, Louisiana voters saw they don't need to accept the Washington status quo of more government regulation and failed Obama policies that Senator Landrieu votes for 97 percent of the time," LAGOP Chairman Roger Villere said. "It was painfully obvious Senator Landrieu has lost touch with Louisiana values as she futilely tried spin her own record being an Obama rubber stamp and a friend to the anti-energy forces of the Senate."
Gallup: Landrieu's ObamaCare hurts more than it helps
ObamaCare is on the ballot this fall, which is bad news for Mary Landrieu. Landrieu cast the deciding vote for ObamaCare, and said she would vote for it again – this despite more people still saying it negatively affects them than helps them.
It’s easy to see why…
ObamaCare is bad for Louisiana
· 60,000 Louisianans are facing double-digit insurance rate increases due to ObamaCare
· 400 Lincoln Parish School employees have hours, pay reduced because of ObamaCare
· Tax dollars funding abortions under ObamaCare
· More than 90,000 in Louisiana receive cancellation notices
· Nearly two thirds of Louisianians think ObamaCare went too far
· ObamaCare Forcing Louisiana Business Owner To Cut Hours For Part-Time Workers
· Louisiana Company Laying Off Employees Because Of ObamaCare
· ObamaCare Forcing Louisiana Restaurant To Lay Off Employees
“There’s no two ways about it – Mary Landrieu’s vote for ObamaCare is bad for middle class families and is bad for Louisiana. But instead of acknowledging the error of supporting President Obama’s failed agenda 97 percent of the time, Landrieu continues to double down on her bad votes, showing that after 17 years in Washington, D.C. she has lost touch with what matters to the people of Louisiana.” – Ben Voelkel, RNC spokesman
