A man whose vehicle was impounded by the Lagos Task Force wails uncontrollably as his automobile goes for less than ₦400,000 at Thursday’s auction. Lagos State Government on Thursday, auctioned over 40 vehicles impounded for various traffic offences. The exercise was carried out at the headquarters of Lagos State Taskforce and Special Offences Unit, Bolade Oshodi, Oshodi-Isolo Local Goverment Area Residents thronged the venue to bid for various types of vehicles including cars, buses, Sport Utility Vehicles, SUV, among others. According to the Chairman of the agency. Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Sola Jejeloye, through the Public Affairs Officer, PAO, Mr Raheem Ggbadeyanka, the vehicles were impounded by the state’s task force for flouting traffic rules and regulations, particularly, for driving against the flow of traffic. The Magistrate Court Consequently, after trial, forteired the offenders vehicles to the government for auctioning. The impounded cars were auctioned and given to the highest bidders. Third Mainland Bridge Will Be Shut Down Tomorrow … #thirdmainlandbridge #3rdmainlandbridge #lagostraffic #traffic #lagoslockdown #lagosstate #edesonlagosreports #thirdmainland #stayhome The federal government will from midnight on Friday enforce a partial closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, for scheduled rehabilitation work to ensure that the major transportation facility does not collapse. It was learnt that the replacement of damaged bars, hydro-demolition of all non-firm parts and lifting of two of the bridge spans will take a large portion of the work, which is expected to last from July to January 2021. Though works on the bridge, considered the busiest in the country with a total traffic of 132,702 vehicles per day, is expected to impact movement around the city, the federal government has noted that road traffic managers will be deployed to minimise chaos. Minister of Works and Housing , Mr Babatunde Fashola, while briefing journalists in Abuja on the proposed maintenance of the bridge, said rehabilitation work would be carried out on a length of 3.5 kilometres out of the 11.8 kilometre bridge. According to him, the rehabilitation of the bridge became imperative due to failing and damaged portions, adding that the government cannot afford to rebuild the bridge if allowed to collapse. The minister added that N277 billion will be needed to rehabilitate all the 37 bridges nationwide. Earlier, the Lagos State Government had announced alternative roads that were fixed to ameliorate the hardship during the period. Some of the routes include: Iddo inwards Carter Bridge, Market road inwards Herbert Macaulay road and Herbert Macaulay road by Abeokuta Street as well as Herbert Macaulay by Cemetery and Apapa road inwards Oyingbo. The first phase of the rehabilitation, it said, would focus on Oworonshoki inwards Lagos Island in the morning with traffic diversion from midnight to 1p.m. and then Lagos Island inwards Oworonshoki where traffic would be diverted in the afternoon from 1p.m. to midnight. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had earlier reported that the BRT operator had withdrawn its services since Monday over losses occasioned by COVID-19 new transport guidelines that mandated it to commute only 20 passengers per trip instead of 70. Earlier on Thursday morning, Mr Fola Tinubu, the BRT Managing Director, told NAN that the management would resolve all issues with the government in the afternoon and restore services on Friday. Updating NAN after the meeting, Tinubu said: “We are going to increase our pricing effective from tomorrow Friday May 29. We agreed on this after our talk with the Lagos State Government. “Everywhere commuters are paying N200 for a trip, it is going to be N300 and everywhere commuters are paying N300 per trip, it is going to be N500. “We are increasing our fares. We have secured permission of the regulator (Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). According to him, the firm understands the plight of the people and the economic situation, but the step became imperative to keep serving the commuters diligently and to provide a world class service for them. “We are doing this not to punish anybody or to victimise anybody but because the circumstances we found ourselves forced us to do it. “We need to make sure the company is on a sound financial footing, and if we don’t do this, the buses will not be available in the long run and there will be no way for us to fix buses and bring new buses.
