👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

oh boy hehe. well since nobody has asked me about camboy shen wei yet in my recent wip game i'm gonna talk about camboy shen wei! this will probably end up being quite short, just one or two videos from shen wei with zhao yunlan watching and reacting. but, from a technical perspective, i really want to play with the idea of writing sex in a way that shifts between hot and not hot in the same scene (mostly to see if i can do that, bc like. you can write any mundane thing to have sexual tension in it so it seems reasonable that the opposite should be true too?)

omg ... my favorite headcanon is that shen wei does actually know how to use some modern technology, but chooses not to, because he wants something to hang onto to remind him of the past that he belonged to, and if that means looking downright antiquated while using an honest-to-god brush to mark his students' papers, so be it.

oh man ok hmm lemme go dig up something nice for weilan xfiles au hehe. how about ... two short ones based on txf posts i've seen on here, since i haven't got anything new that's connected together:

The man pops the lollipop out of his mouth and asks, with a daunting enthusiasm, "Do you believe in the existence of extraterrestrials?" Shen Wei touches one hand gently to his glasses and pushes them up the bridge of his nose. The gesture hides his eyes, for just a moment, as he says, "Logically, I would have to say no."

and then, my awesome reference to txf canon, which will eventually go into some suspect discussion for a case:

"I want to believe—" Zhao Yunlan says, cuts himself off as the waiter comes by with tea, with tall glasses of clinking ice water. Shen Wei's heart clenches and he hides it with a nod of thanks. Zhao Yunlan takes a long swallow of water, continues, lower, "I just want to believe it wasn't."

Last thing I drew yesterday, Guardian book weilan. I am still deciding how I want to color it and with what.

Tried drawing Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan from Guardian with my alcohol markers. Book Shen Wei is a little beast I love him, somehow he feels more young than Zhao Yunlan despite being an ancient king of the gui. He's just so guided by his heart (or suppressing it).

More Guardian recs for my own stuff

So, reccing my own writing wasn't an entirely unsuccessful endeavour. It's been a week, so more recs. (I have a lot of fic, okay.)

This time I'm going with AUs, but a very specific what if canon, but Shen Wei is a [insert whatever descriptor that fits]. I'm quite amused that I have enough of them to actually make it a category. These fics are not all about giving me an excuse to work out some very different sex logistics, but some of it is very much that. So I guess be prepared for some level of monsterfucking to be found here.

Size Matters (13983 words) | Explicit | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan | Giant Shen Wei Summary: "Why didn't anyone tell me Heipaoshi is a giant?" Zhao Yunlan asks. It really seems like the kind of thing someone should have mentioned.

Reasons for reccing this: Because I enjoy the concept of Zhao Yunlan climbing Shen Wei like a tree? To be honest, Shen Wei isn't nearly as big as he could be, because I still needed to make him fit into canon. You know, physically. So there's that. But at least he is very, very tall. I think the story is fun, and once I got started on the sex I ended up having a lot of fun trying to figure out the logistics of it, because I did make Shen Wei big enough to make things awkward in that regard.

No Great Thing (6941 words) | General | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan | Tiny Shen Wei Summary: Zhao Yunlan stares at the place where the Black Cloaked Envoy had been standing just a moment ago, those last words still ringing in his ears. He looks down to the ground and it takes a moment to realise what he's seeing. And then he laughs, despite the situation. Getting to know the Black Cloaked Envoy is entirely different than Zhao Yunlan might have expected.

Reasons for reccing this: Well, I couldn't rec giant Shen Wei without also reccing tiny Shen Wei, right? At the time of writing I wasn't entirely happy with the way the story ends. I don't actually explain what happens and that bothered me a bit at first, but actually I like it like that. I do know why it happens (well more or less). As a bit of trivia the fic was inspired by a random dream with a very similar concept but Shen Wei had a whole full blown magical girl transformation while turning tiny. There was a lot more sparkles involved. Tiny Shen Wei is very cute and at some point we find out that he has also been adopted by a random mama cat, does a story really need anything more to sell it? Zhao Yunlan is very charmed at least.

Never Lost Till Won (16072 words) | Teen And Up | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan | Mobile game app Shen Wei Summary: Zhao Yunlan never thought his silly game app was actually talking to him. Turns out he was wrong.

Reasons for reccing this: It's a fun fic and because of all the random ideas about making Shen Wei this or that creature or whatever, this really was the one I had no idea if I could actually make work. I'm pretty proud of managing it.

At First Sight (57478 words) | Explicit | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan | Dragon Shen Wei Summary: The sad fact is that most Dixingren don't like Zhao Yunlan, or the SID, all that much. When they turn up it's usually because something bad has happened, and sometimes it's because a Dixingren has done something, and maybe it's not part of the job to suspect all Dixingren around, but sometimes it definitely feels like it is. He knows that Dragon City University has a dragon for a professor. The University makes sure everyone knows, it's a point of pride and all. Zhao Yunlan just really didn't expect to meet him like this.

Reasons for reccing this: Canon but all Dixingren are dragons, no shapeshifting at all, they're just dragons all the time (conveniently human sized). Isn't that a fun idea? I think it's a really fun idea. Also so many dragon logistics to work out, including physical intimacy. And like I love that sort of stuff. Also this does go through a whole fix it and twin reconciliation, so a proper longfic and everything. Oh and there's Zhu Jiu (eventually)! I love him, he's so silly and dramatic. Honestly, I just love this fic a lot.

Maybe Even Tomorrow (23718 words) | Explicit | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan | Catboy Shen Wei Warnings: Rape/Non-Con Summary: This guy sure has taken that sexed-up catboy stereotype and is throwing it in your face. For some reason, Zhao Yunlan is convinced that that's a very deliberate choice. Going by the slightly disdainful look on the guy's face, Zhao Yunlan is pretty sure he didn't quite manage to hide his initial surprise.

Reasons for reccing this: This diverges in tone quite a lot from the other things I've recced here today. It's a lot heavier, which you know, the premise might not make you think this is one of the heaviest fics I've ever written, but it is. It also has more changes from canon to make the world work, but I feel like it still fits into the overall theme in the mostly canon universe way. I'm so very, very proud of this work. I pulled from a lot of very personal trauma to get the feelings right, and while it was really hard to write at times it was also satisfying. I do warn about it on the fic itself, but there's no consensual sex in this one at all, including between Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan (circumstances make it happen, but they're either unwilling or unable to consent). So yeah, everyone is dealing with trauma in this one and it's not all magically fixed by the end, even if things do end up on a hopeful note. On a slightly more cheerful note I had fun with catboy Shen Wei's overall presentation, and trying to justify that in terms of his show canon personality. I think I made it work, but then I just enjoy putting Shen Wei in high heels, so there's that.

ooooh tell me about the 'weilan boyfriend service au' fic 👀

ok so i put some details here about the premise but another thing i can say is that this fic, as most of my longer weilan fics do, has slowly but surely turned into a casefic. what is the case? who knows!

what i do know is that i want the kind of stupid lying investigation from the drama dialed up because both shen wei and zhao yunlan aren't officially allowed to be investigating shit! i'm excited to play with zhao yunlan convinced his dad is overlooking something (bonus points for me if i can get zyl to overcome his dixing prejudice via i told you so to his dad lol) and goes off on his own to try and figure out The Truth. cue shen wei booking more and more dates with zhao yunlan for stupider and stupider reasons while trying to keep them at case-relevant places in the hopes that zhao yunlan will do case things while shen wei is there to keep an eye on him and protect him from harm.

it'll be a pov-switching fic, so another thing i'm interested in juggling (tho this might kill me lol just thinking about it i'm already like ohhh ... this is going to be so complicated ...) is the layers of information each character knows in each persona versus what they can show versus what the reader knows. like, heipaoshi!shen wei is privy to basically everything the official sid investigation knows, but professor!shen wei doesn't even know the sid exists. boyfriend!zhao yunlan is busy charming and smarming at his day job but inner detective!zhao yunlan is busy Seeking Justice Being More Right Than His Dad To Feel Something!! and the reader will probably get to know everything and just sit back and laugh at all the lying and foolish deception hehehe

what's new is umm mostly that i feel suddenly as though i really can pull off a multi-case casefic (<- words of someone with a somewhat outsized sense of writing confidence at the moment haha. but i'll take it while i've got it!).

but it did lead me to write weilan princess carry in the hopes that i can stick it in somewhere (catch my not-so-subtle nod to drama canon hehe):

When Zhao Yunlan goes to put him down, Shen Wei doesn't make a sound, doesn't move. Lets his numb hand fall freely from where Zhao Yunlan had draped it around his neck. And yet, still — For a moment, Zhao Yunlan leans in, eyes close on Shen Wei's face, breath against his eyelids. "Agent Shen," he breathes, nearly a question. Shen Wei forces his eyelids still, the rise and fall of his chest even. Fights the instinct to fall into the same rhythm of breath that Zhao Yunlan is puffing, gently, against his cheek. In, out, in, out. It takes a moment longer, but eventually Zhao Yunlan draws away. Shen Wei hears the room door click shut behind him, and opens his eyes into darkness.
