I just read the article you linked in that recent post and I was wondering why is it you shouldn't say "smudging" rather than smoke-cleaning or recaning? I know a lot of people who call it smudging and I'm just curious
I get asked this so often that I made a tag for it. XD
Short answer: “Smudging” is an inaccurate and appropriative term perpetuated by confused (or flat-out ignorant) New Age authors. It exoticizes the practices of certain Native American and First Nation peoples, and it’s gotten into the popular consciousness and vocabulary over the years. Smoke-cleansing and recaning are more generic terms which are open for use by everyone, and they more accurately describe what’s being done.
Long answer: Please see the tag. It’s a hot-button issue.
