It had been a week since her confession for the 6th born brother. He was devastated at this news, his twin Belphie had told Beel how he feels for the human. His love for her. But she didn't love Belphie, she loved Beel. He didn't give her a response after she poured her heart out to him. Eyes slightly wet and a heavy heat from her cheek.
He ran. He couldn't live with the idea of hurting her or Belphie.
Beel avoided her and lied to himself. Convincing himself he didn't love her back, couldn't love her, could no longer be her best friend. The lies never stuck, but they helped him keep his distance.
Belphie was pouting on his bed when Beel entered their room. "What's wrong?"
He huffed in reply before answering. "___ won't come out of her room. She's been ignoring us all, her door is locked with a spell that Solomon gave her. The only who can break is her or Lucifer, who won't." His eyes seemed distant. "I've never been away from her for so long. It doesn't hurt as it should though. I'm just worried about her. I'm starting to think I only love as a friend, maybe even as a sister, like Lilith."
Beel almost couldn't speak, all his worry about her confession lifted with his brother's honesty. New concerns wormed in with the thought of her not coming out of her room.
"Do you know why she won't come out?"
"She's sad, but won't tell anyone why. She wants to work through it herself."
"But she's okay? Is she eating?"
"Lucifer seems to know what is wrong. He’s been taking her homework and food." Belphie growled the sentence, upset that only Luci knew the source of her pain. "You're her best friend. Don't you know what's wrong?"
"Maybe,” he shifted uncomfortably on his feet. “I haven't talked to her in a week or so."
"You think you ignoring her is what made her sad?" Belphie's eyes were soft as Beel nodded for an answer. "Then just go talk to her. We're all so worried about her, Beel."
"I can't."
"What?! Why?!" Belphie was angry, making Beel feel even worse.
"She confessed to me."
"Then why ignore her? Just tell her you don't like her back. She's too nice and sweet to hold it against you. She'll understand,” it was almost a plea,
"I don’t know how I feel," his reply was barely a whisper. He thought he loved her but with all the false truths he tried to instill, he didn't know anymore. He shifted his weight back and forth, brow furrowed.
"Tell her that then," Belphie basically demanded, noticing the sad expression on Beel's face he changed his tone. “She’s human, she’s weak physically. She’s soft and loving. But if she loves you. She’ll understand whatever you say to her. If you need time, you know she’ll give it. If you reject her, you will need to give her time. She deserves a reply, even if uncertain. She’s your best friend. I’ve seen how this time away from her has affected you.” Belphie whispered the last part before yawning and lying down. “Be honest with yourself, to her.”
Beel stood outside of her room before taking a deep breath and knocking gently. No answer, he knocked again. “___?” He called gently, he heard shuffling and her mumbled something. The magic around the door started to fade and her feet stopped near the entrance. He could hear her concentrated breathing before the door opened.
Her face lit but he could tell it was a façade, a good one, but he knew her better. She couldn’t hide the redness in her eyes. The lack of glow, the dimmed joy. He felt all his guilt from ignoring her start to crush his chest.
Dropping her fake smile and heartfelt one appeared, easing his mind for a moment. “I’m sorry. I should have known better than to tell you something like that. You don’t want to hurt me or any of your brothers. Even if I don’t hold the same feeling some of them have towards me, you would blame yourself. It wasn’t fair for me to put that on you. I’m sorry. So. Just please be my best friend right now, not the guy I confessed my love to. I want my best friend back.” Beel still didn’t answer her, as her eyes started to water. “Beelzebub, please,” she looked down as her voice started to give out.
Beel sighed deeply before carefully pinching her chin and tilting it back up. “I can’t be your best friend.” He felt her breath hitch as she tried to look away, but stopped her. “I can’t just be your best friend anymore. I love you too. I want to be selfish for once if you are.”
A happy sob broke through her as she jumped into his arms, he easily lifted her and carried her inside her room, kicking the door closed. Minding his strength with action as to not break it. Sitting down on her bed with her in his lap, she had her arms and legs wrapped around him.
“I’ve never been selfish before. But if this is how I get to hold you. I’ll never share you.”
“I’ll never let go then,” no more sadness within her, her light within burned bright again. She no longer had to fake her feelings. The weight of it rolled off her, Beel relished in her true bliss for the first time and rested his forehead against hers.
“I’ll catch you if you do.”
Author’s Note: continued I really love Belphie and Beel. I wanted my first fanfic for ObeyMe to be a Belphie one, but this was random and written in a day. Enjoy this hurt/comfort fic, they seem to be my forte. I read the prompt and this story just kinda hit me and I had the time, so yeah. Enjoy one the fanfic that hit me and was written in the make stroke of inspiration. I wish this happened more often as it would mean a lot of ideas didn’t die after I fantasized about it. But it is what it is. I hope it’s decent aha.
