Another favorite from the concert: Erro really did his thang on “Superwoman”. And Lalah infused “Where Were You” with so much emotion…I literally FELT the lyrics.

Music of My Mind...

Still on a high from last night's concert.  I can barely even put it into words.

I will say this, though...

Robert Glasper has an awesome sense of humor...which makes me love/respect him even more.  He is GIFTED...you hear me?  GIFTED!  He was ON POINT throughout the whole concert.  Highlight:  He KILLED those keys on "Golden Lady".

The Experiment Band is AMAZING!  Casey Benjamin, Mark Colenburg, Yuki Hirano, Michael Moreno, Burniss Travis...each of those cats is AMAZINGLY talented.

Lalah Hathaway...........LAWD!!  Her voice is just.....BUTTAH.  Perfection squared.  Her range is bananas...especially her lower register. I could listen to her all night.  Highlights: "Overjoyed" and "Where Were You When I Needed You".

Eric Roberson (y'all know I love this man) was his usual charming, melodic self...putting his own spin on each song he delivered.  Highlights: "Superwoman" and "Creep". (Sidenote: Dude is gettin' his HUSTLE ON these days!  Constantly touring, still promoting "Mr. Nice Guy", recording/touring/promoting with United Tenors (UT), recording/performing with Robert Glasper, etc...do yo' thang, boo!)  

Stokely Williams was a BEAST last night!  I've always been a fan of Mint Condition, but never saw them (nor him) live.  Dude was even playing the bongos...lol.  But seriously, my appreciation for him has increased tenfold. Highlights: "Rocket Love" and "Taboo to Love".

And to top it all off...there was a Stevie Wonder impersonator in the audience...lolol.  My husband still SWEARS it was really Stevie...Gull E. Bull. (hehe)

It's too bad he wasn't there, though...he would've been very pleased indeed.

"Tragic Inevitability" by Lalah Hathaway

In the mood for some Lalah today...and this is one that always envelops me when I listen to it.  (Who hasn't been here before?  That final stage of "break-up grief" - Acceptance - where it still hurts like hell, but you know you've gotta move on.)  There's a haunting and painful beauty in both the music and the lyrics.  And...as always...her voice is just........BUTTAH.

Ahmed Sirour is at it again.  I mean, this guy couldn't create a bad remix if he tried.  (And no...that's NOT a challenge...hehe.)  

The FABULOUS Lalah Hathaway is currently holding a contest for remixed versions of her song "My Everything".  The original is a catchy groove, sweetened with Lalah's honeyed vocals.  Well, apparently, Sirour knows a thing or two about what to do with honey ;)  He completely re-imagined the tune...turning it into a smooth, piano-driven ballad that beautifully showcases the sincere lyrics ("Ahmed's Ballad Remix", to be specific).
