Lu Guang being a total fish out of water at the Qiao family dinner table, haha. He was so awkward it was very delightful. In this AU, Xiaoshi has a close relationship with Qiao Ling's folks he really is straight up adopted. Which leads us to The Earthquake Arc. Didn't think in a million years I'd be drawing Chen Xiao, and yet. In this version of events, he's been having trouble getting the film out of the camera, which is what Lu Guang is dealing with in the dark room. However, Chen Xiao has a trauma response to attempting to look at the photos once he gets them which is why he's sitting on the street dejectedly. Lu Guang's the one taking a proactive role reaching out to him (and knowing how to fix a camera...), which I think is interesting. It makes sense for this version of him since he's the one dealing with loss, andddd Xiaoshi doesn't really have any mommy issues to get paralleled—his mom is auntie Qiao. They're both getting tested in different ways than in the donghua! tl;dr the earthquake arc is getting repurposed it's time to deal with ptsd.

Lu Guang caught the duo on their way to dinner when he wanted to give Xiaoshi the money to invest into the shop. Of course... Xiaoshi doesn't exactly want Qiao Ling to know he's potentially squeezing money out of someone, especially when he's already getting an earful from her about not having his life together. This is a while after their first case has wrapped up which Qiao Ling was... reporting on! She's a journalist! A change to get her immediately involved in the storylines while also giving the viewer another perspective, since she's not involved in their business (yet).

Lu Guang wonders about Cheng Xiaoshi's parents (even though they're old enough by now where it shouldn't be weird to live alone? but w/e) and gets punk'd ✌ This version of Xiaoshi doesn't feel stuck in the same way so far. It's more like feeling a greater destiny but not doing anything about it. I wonder if this version is worse at b-ball than the donghua's lol and that's why he's not out there trying to go pro. I mean, I know he's still good at it, I've seen the next arc. Is he too short 🥺 (LA height not pictured)

And then they have some store-bought dinner. I don't get it but Lu Guang wants to invest into the photo studio... Xiaoshi tries to get more out of him and aaaabsolutely thinks this guy is being a sucker. I agree. Please protect your money, Lu Guang.

Lu Guang goes on a trip home(?), brings gifts for a bunch of local children, and visits his teacher's grave. At this point it's revealed to the audience that his true motivation for seeking out Xiaoshi is to get his help to investigate his teacher's death, which is what the photo he's holding is about. It was taken on the day she died.

Pretty self-explanatory again: Xiaoshi is a dumbass. He's trying to act secretive in this scene cuz they're out in public and he's on that "we're secret agents" thing after being told he can't tell anyone about what they do. Lu Guang has still not really told him anything about where he came from and what he's part of, so Xiaoshi's mind keeps going to media and pulling shit like brain implants lol.

Xiaoshi was doing his thing helping an old lady not get scammed by a fish vendor. Vendor did not like that and called some friends to attack him later. The boys' powers are explained through... magnetic fields? Which manifests with them being able to mess with electronics. So Lu Guang shows up and scares off the assailants with popping lights and malfunctioning radio. Very spooky. My friend saw this scene and said "aura farming" and that's so apt. That's exactly what's happening.

Okay so in this version Lu Guang is more proactive and is the one who wants the partnership to use their powers for his own reasons. His attempts to probe for information on whether Xiaoshi is "in" on that kind of business already are so awkward... Anyway, I just found it amusing for my own totally unsubtle reasons that Xiaoshi keeps calling him handsome.

Lu Guang lies about needing an ID photo taken. Dunno how obvious it is that's what's happening,,, He's not deleting every photo, just the ones of himself lol. (there wasn't anything else in the memory anyway) He finally starts talking about their powers after getting pushed out the door. I, personally, drew Xiaoshi checking him out pogging cuz I think it's pretty hype if the figure you were idolizing in your head as a cool hero turns out to be hot handsome interested in talking to you.

Guang still hasn't introduced himself. Honestly, he's pretty rude smh. I actually wasn't gonna draw this exchange but I got the itch to draw Xiaoshi pocketing the bribe while I was skipping through the footage for reference. And then I added four more panels and somehow it became a comic kill me.

Not pictured from this episode: A LOT. There's actually quite a bit of fun dialogue, but if I draw all of it, I'll never finish. All of these already took way longer than intended... I need to be sloppier. And leave out way more. 💀

While Xiaoshi is celebrating meeting someone who "completes" him, Lu Guang is cursing his fate lol. Ahem. So the thing is, it seems as though their powers are incomplete without the other, instead of having powers that complement each other. The one who's the most nerfed by this is definitely Xiaoshi. He can't even exit a photo by himself, much less enter one. He might as well not have a "power" at all. It's kinda unfair smh. So anyway, that's what he's talking about at the start there.
