Nisha Kadam is a character from the Borderlands series, first seen in Borderlands 2 and introduced as the girlfriend of Handsome Jack (big baddie) (he is important how she to ruins her life but we will get into that later). The third installment in the franchise was The Pre-Sequel which took place between BL1 and BL2, and featured Nisha as a playable character with Jack as your fun cool very much not at all concerning in any way employer.

now, the nature of the Borderlands franchise Shoot-and-Loot games is that the player characters get very limited characterization (and the bosses for boss fights get even less). the REST of the main cast is as fleshed out as much as the cast of any AAA studio game, but the player characters and their backstories are limited to 4(?)short audio logs you can discover in-game, as little easter eggs of insight. otherwise, all you have to go by are the verbal replies your character makes when accepting/completing/turning in quests and otherwise interacting with the game world.

what TPS canon establishes about Nisha is this: She grew up in an abusive home where her mother terrorized both her and her cowardly father, including throwing (often sharp or heavy) objects at her child in rage. This happened so frequently that Nisha made a game out of catching what her mom threw at her. She got a thrill from training her reflexes like that, especially because it pissed her mom off.

When Nisha was 5 or 6 years old, her dad gets her a puppy that becomes her best friend in the entire world. They do everything together. She carries it on her shoulders, she takes it to school with her, they sleep cuddled together in the same bed, she WILL NOT be separated from this dog because it’s the sole source of joy in the entire fucking world for this one little girl. And then the dog gets bit by a space rabies carrier and develops Some symptoms of space rabies. Nisha, and so hoped she’d gotten a lucky break and that her dog was immune or otherwie unaffected because it did not become aggressive to her.

And then. One night. When Nisha’s mom throws something at her again, and Nisha tries to catch it, it slips off her hand and hits her dog, who immediately attacks her by biting her throat. She specifically mentions hearing her dad crying, the dog snarling, and her mom laughing. It took her father prying the dogs jaws open to get Nisha free. Immediately afterwards Nisha kills the dog herself. With a shovel. By bashing its skull in.

That is ALL the information we are given about her childhood.

The rest of TPS establishes that Nisha is, 1: An exceptionally eager sadomasochist who is very kinky even by Borderlands standards. Her melee weapon is a whip. Yes for that reason. 2: Interested in fucking just about anyone but ONLY fucking them, not getting involved. 3: Loathes anything cute, fluffy, or full of feelings. States verbatim she hates kittens and wants to shoot them. Canonically killed Brick’s puppy in front of him for her own entertainment. Would rather put up demotivational posters than motivational ones. 4: Enjoys taking an enforcer role and made a reputation for herself as a “Bandit who kills bandits” for how many corrupt and bandit-occupied Pandoran towns she’d cleaned out. This was also how she caught Jack’s interest despite his alt-right “all criminals are subhuman scum i must eradicate from the earth” beat.

In 2, shes an area/sidequest boss. Jack gave her the entire town of Lynchwood as a birthday gift, where she lives and enforces 200+ laws all punishable by the death penalty.

Her interests include being hurt, hurting other people, sex, and being a self-made cop (sometimes all 4 at the same time). (she would do GREAT as a Supernatural character now that I think about it).

Thats her character as written. Sadomasochist vigilante cowgirl. She drives me cucoo for cocoa puffs because the last thing she wants is a relationship, is something to tie her down with obligations and 🤢 emotions, but JACK. Throws a whole wrench in fucking everything, because he is everything she likes. He is dangerous and unstable and powerful and rich and everything she could find exciting in another person. and he is SO. soooooooo into her.

She had NO good reason to get in a relationship with Jack. But she did, because he matched her freak so well. She matched his freak. She, the girl who swore since she was a child that she’d never fall in love, falls in love with the worst man in the universe to love. And stays with him so long it gets her killed. He gets her killed. She died because she couldnt let go of him. Let go of her love. He’s the dog, all over again, and this time she’s all alone with no one to pry the teeth from her neck.
