This is where I lived and slept for over two weeks while my unit was guarding the Saddam Canal Bridge in April 2003. Our mission was to keep the road clear during the push to Baghdad and prevent any Iraqi and Fedayeen forces from trying to re-enter the city of Nasiriyah.
During some down time, I took an MRE sleeve and created a sign for my temporary living quarters and dubbed it, “Lambeau Bunker.” Instead of the "Frozen Tundra," I was taking up residence in the "Sandy Confines." After almost two weeks of living under the bridge, we moved to a new position, further inside the city. I put the sign in my pack and carried it throughout the rest of my deployment. I brought it back home as a souvenir from my time of living like a troll under that damn bridge.
