Aston Martin Assists in COVID-19 Via PPE to the NHS Workers

A world sinking in crisis, where the affluent, along with the frontline workers, have been witnessed lifting the spirit of those in despair. It is definitely a gloomy period, but the brands of shiny luxurious cars have decided to boost the speed of recovery process from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the pack of these labels is the iconic British sports car manufacturer, Aston Martin, which has joined the battle by delivering Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the NHS laborers during the outbreak. The luxury carmaker has been working towards making a new respiratory protection device, safety visors and gowns.

In fight against the pandemic, the healthcare workers have remained exposed to most hazardous situations. One of this includes, the intubation and extubation process undertaken by the intensive care staff while treating the COVID-19 patients. Considering the risks, an additional layer of protection during respiratory treatments has been looked for.

Working in association with Multimatic, Aston Martin has been assisting the Manufacturing Technology Center (MTC) to upgrade and manufacture a new respiratory protection device. As explained by the makers, this intubation shield is basically a Perspex box that covers a patient's upper body during procedures and protects the healthcare staff, while giving them the required access to treat the patient.

The project partners, Aston Martin and Multimatic have helped the MTC by planning and producing a tool with a goal of making the Perspex component in one piece, which makes it possible for the boxes to be stacked and occupy less space in busy intensive care wards. It additionally implied that the MTC could deliver the box at the rate required by the NHS.

Besides, the luxury carmaker Aston Martin used the best-in-class cutting machines at Gaydon, to cut out the silicone parts used in the assembly of the box. These machines are generally used for cutting out intricate leather shapes for the interiors of a sports car.

The new design of the device was turned around in just a few days and was sent to the Royal London Hospital for trial.

Apart from providing PPE to NHS, volunteer technicians and back office staff at Aston Martin Works — legacy home of the brand in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire — have been running a plan to offer crisis vehicle fixes to NHS staff at the Milton Keynes University Hospital emergency.

"The neighborhood network is essential to Aston Martin so we are charmed to have the option to support our nearby medical clinics. The bleeding edge NHS laborers are shielding us from Covid-19 so we need to do what we can and attempt to ensure them by providing visors and outfits,” said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive.

In addition to Aston Martin, other top-notch car brands like Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes also came up in assisting the requirements of the tough times. While Lamborghini started creating masks and protective shields in Italy and the UK, the urgent requirement of ventilators was being fulfilled by the consortium of McLaren and the Mercedes Formula 1 team. These brands, which have been offering us the speed on roads, are now giving all they can to bring life back on track.

Featured in Furious 7, the Lykan Hypersport is a real-life supercar. With a price of about $3.4 million, the supercar is only seven of its type in the world. The HyperSport is powered by a 3.7 L twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and is capable of producing up to 780 hp. It can go up to 0-60 in 3 seconds. It has diamonds in its headlights for some mysterious reason. Unfortunately, this car was involved in the most dangerous stunt in the seventh part, where it was ultimately destroyed by falling off a skyscraper.

Koenigsegg CCXR

Koenigsegg CCXR is one of the most powerful, beautiful and one-of-its-kind ever-produced supercar. It appeared in Fast Five, where Roman Pearce (played by Tyrese Gibson) and Tej Parker (played by Chris Bridges) show off their cars in the end. The CCXR is capable of achieving an unbelievable 1,004 hp, and is impressively less harmful to the environment.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Murcielago is one of the most iconic Lamborghinis ever manufactured. And orange-colored Lamborghini Murcielago was driven by Roman Pearce, during the ice sequence in the Fate of the Furious. The beast was powered by the 6.2 litre V12 motor and was capable of hitting 0-100 kmph in under 4 seconds. The car has been replaced by Aventador.

The latest in the Fast and Furious franchise, F9 Saga was expected to hit the theatres in April 2020. However, due to coronavirus pandemic, it will now be released in April next year. As of now, we can only hope to see more luxurious and powerful supercars in this spectacle series.
