THE DRAG he lets out from his otherwise TENSED chest cavity is only punctuated by words, MULLED & DRAWN out ( he’s starting to get a DRAWL from spending so much time in this place ).
“TAKE it yer th’deputy that everyone’s been RAVIN’ ‘bout...’SAVIOR A HOPE COUNTY’....’LEADER A TH’RESISTANCE ‘GAINST TH’SEEDS & PEGGIES’...”
He trails off ( raffling off just some of the titles that she’d ‘earned’ whether they were cognizant of them or not ). HE HAD a way of learning things that made others uncomfortable. It’s a talent he’d possessed due to his rather INQUISITIVE & INVASIVE nature. It seems time & stress of being in a place like this had only sharped those tools in his arsenal.
“I GOT SOMETHIN’ t’say.”
He’s frank now, bluntness evident by how FLAT his tone is when he speaks. It’s something he’d been seeking to point out since it seemed the resistance was growing in size exponentially which meant he COULD be up for a due visit from the famous DEPUTY OF HOPE COUNTY. He figured it’d be easiest to cut out the middle man.
“I ain’t part a th’resistance. I got my OWN bone t’pick. That’s IT.”
‘ i’ll take it easy with the morbid stuff. ’
father john.
shelby flashes teeth to show he’s teasing (he’d been staring somberly at them until now) and lifts his hands. ‘ maybe you should, ’ he signs. ‘ there’s enough of that as it is. ’
noah reaches in and takes hold of his hand, pressing a kiss to his bandaged knuckles. ‘see,’ she pulls away to sign, a small smile at their mouth, ‘all better.’
he smiles at them — it’s a small, tired one, to be sure, but it means something — and flexes his fingers carefully before signing back. ‘ thank you. ’ a beat. ‘ you’re good at that. ’
