there's a bond to be made in this field of work ( trauma and dead bodies could do that to a person ). barbie thinks she found that in beverly. and despite the other woman being cool, calm, collected, and even somewhat mysterious, barbie found herself drawn to beverly. of course, she didn't want to force any kind of friendship, but she did end up bringing beverly a coffee every morning, eventually memorizing her order so that it would be perfect for her. was barbie coming on too strong? if so, beverly hasn't told her to get lost yet. that was a blessing in and of itself, knowing how often she scared people off with her optimism. 'another early morning in paradise,' barbie removes one pink latex glove to retrieve the coffee cup from her desk, passing it to beverly as she enters the morgue. 'did jack call you in, or are you just trying to get some work done?' @lambswraths.

upon approaching the large home in baltimore, barbie had thought she might be overdressed. her soft pink, silk chiffon dress fell toward her ankles, an open toed heel to match, her manicured toes just exposed. blonde locks half up and half down, make up painted delicately across eyelids, she wondered if she'd once again found a reason to do too much ( it seemed to be in her genes ). then, she was allowed into the small mansion - saw the exquisite floor to ceiling interior, and the other guests dressed practically to the nines to enjoy this dinner party - and exhaled a quiet sigh of relief as she accepted an offered glass of champaign from one of the servers. hannibal really didn't mess around, did he? barbie was practically in awe as she strolled around the room, hiding the giddy part of her that was relieved to be at a party of this scale again.

she's greeted by those she knows, and introduces herself to those she doesn't, smiling brightly as she converses with the other guests. when everyone is called to the dining room for their meal, barbie found her seat once hannibal had formally welcomed all of them to his home. she hadn't expected to be sitting so close to the host, but she gives him a winning smile as she sips from her new glass of rosé. 'i'm sure you've heard this a million times, but you've really outdone yourself,' she says this as she tastes their appetizer. the flavors are perfect, despite her being unable to guess what any of those flavors are. she pats at pink lips with her napkin. 'is this what all of your parties are like?' @lambswraths.

she felt like she was intruding, a bit. the last thing barbie wanted was to polarize will, or make him feel as if he was being watched. she had a tendency of caring too much, taking matters into her own hands when it came to understanding others and their quirks and flaws, vowing to love thy neighbor, even when it may not be keen to do so. this trip to will's house all the way out in wolf trap hadn't been her idea, but she willingly volunteered to do it. jack had wanted someone that wasn't him to go, and it wasn't like brian or jimmy were volunteering. beverly might have, if she was around. but barbie had been the one to say yes.

she climbs from her convertible with full hands, gracefully closing the door behind her, stopping in her tracks as a group of dogs soars from the front porch and gathers around barbie to sniff at her presence. beaming down at them, she moves the papers and ceramic plate to one hand so that she could use the other to share pets among the pack, talking sweetly to them before she realized will was approaching not far behind. 'hey, it's good to see you! i brought case files - and a slice of pie,' barbie stands up a bit straighter, giving a sheepish smile to will as he stares at her. 'jack sent me to check on you. don't be too mad at him, he knew if he came, you two might have gotten into some kind of argument,' hands hold out what she had brought for him. 'your dogs are so cute. is this all of them?' @lambswraths.

Cerulean hues lock onto the man. The mere presence of him was quick to spike her heart rate and send chills down her body. Her urge was to flee, even if there wasn't any imminent danger. Who he was and what he'd done wasn't something that could bring any sense of security. And yet, her curiosity and entrapment of evil that made her stay.

"....I don't think it's my forgiveness you should ask about. Truth be told, Doctor Lector, I don't- I don't know if you have a soul to forgive. But if by forgiveness you mean my pardon or understanding....I don't think I can."

"'M okay," the blonde mutters through dry lips, her hand shakily coming over to feel towards the wound on her abdomen- and if she wasn't in so much pain and blinking in and out of delirium- she'd probably start to panic.

"W-What hap- what happened?" Blue eyes squeeze shut for a moment as she forces a painful breath, trying to come fully to. "Where am I?"

𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 & 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐍𝐒. to make such a comparison makes her chest tight, it makes sweat want to gather at her forehead. she who stands before him on the other side of thick glass, who hasn’t touched him or been close to him in over a year—still, she recalls that night in the kitchen with such vivid detail that it’s painful to recall. one hand on will’s wound while the other grasps her gun, shaking, shocked. all at once, rain soaked & jarred, the wool had been ripped from her eyes. so much realization flooded her she could’ve vomited all over the kitchen floor. ( hannibal was the killer, hannibal was the manipulator, hannibal was the cannibal. ) blue eyes bare into him without an ounce of fear in them or so she wants herself to be seen. ❛ i disagree, hannibal. ❜ tone is strained, an effort to be made to sound distant. impersonal.

a deep breath is taken & her jaw clenches. so many complex feelings toward him all clashing on the inside. damn him for making her feel things, damn him. ❛ i am not a murderer. nor a cannibal. nor a liar, like you. ❜ would he find her reply . . rude ? would he eat her if he had the chance ? head tilts a little, clarice feeling like picking at a sore spot that hasn’t scabbed over yet: ❛ i didn’t kill abigail in cold blood. so callously. ❜ he took abigail from her—ripped her from her arms knowing she had come to care for her. how could he be so cruel. ❛ you took her from me. ❜ & will.

𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐓 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐁𝐀𝐋’𝐒 𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 𝐒𝐀𝐖 𝐀𝐋𝐋. like he didn’t ever look at you, but into you or through you. his eyes were, at times she saw, more grey than they were blue. wise, almost, as if he had seen more than her—not to comment on his age, but technically speaking he was older than her by a small handful of years. older than will too. his statement makes clarice furrow her brow a little, makes her shift her weight from one side to the other. what was there to look at ? clarice never paid much mind to if she was perceived as beautiful or not, but she didn’t pretend not to see some glimpses of beauty in the mirror. it’s all in the eye of the beholder her father had said on numerous occasions about more than looks.

fingers raise from her side to tuck strands behind her ear, blue eyes focusing on the task of chopping up some vegetables for a stew. ❛ what’re you tryin’ t’look at, doctor ? ❜ they were on a personal level now just like her & will, but the use of his title was a way of staying off the feelings budding in her chest. ❛ my momma always said i was a pretty girl. i always told her i never saw it. that i was plain, more practical. ❜ clarice hadn’t seen anything wrong with that. She shrugs, ❛ i was more interested in gettin’ dirty, bein' outside, than dolls & pink everythin’ . . ❜ she smiles at the memory.
