Page 7. ---- Glove Found in Murdered Indian’s Hut Fits One of the Prisoners ---- INQUEST OPENED TO-DAY ---- Special to The Star London, Ontario - The inquest into the recent double murder on Walpole Island commenced to-day before Coroner Ferguson of Coutright. The body of the Indian, Nahdee, though found, had not been recovered. The jury viewed the other body and then adjourned until Friday.

The police have some important discoveries. An Indian constable found a pair of women’s gloves in the hut, stained with blood and hair. The gloves fit Mrs. Flossie Williams, now under arrest, exactly, and the hair corresponds with Nahdee’s. In addition, the police have a sworn statement of Mrs. Jno. Williams that on the night of the tragedy she saw Mrs. Flossie Williams at the hut, and while going home was overtaken by the prisoner, Kiyosk, who was intoxicated, and said he was going to get a gun to kill Nahdee.

“Low Price, Low Sentence,” Toronto Star. January 28, 1931. Page 20. ---- Sarnia, Jan. 27. - The present low price of poultry prevented Fred Smith of Sarnia township, from being sentenced to the penitentiary to-day. He was convicted of stealing poultry, which he sold for $19.40 from Enniskillen farmers. Had he sold them for $20 he could have been sent to the penitentiary, but he was sent to the Lambton county jail for one month.

“Two Robbers Go to Prison,” The Globe and Mail. June 15, 1938. Page 23. ---- Sarnia, June 14 (Special). - Two men responsible for a series of burglaries throughout Lambton County in recent weeks, were sentenced to penitentiary terms ranging from four to five years, when they pleaded guilty in Magistrate C. S. Woodrow’s court today.

William Rose, aged 27, of Becher, formerly of Chatham, admitted twelve separate charges of breaking and entering, and was sentence to five years’ imprisonment. His associate, Harold Brown, aged 33, alias Pete Shepley, of Wallaceburg, pleaded guilty to eight charges and not guilty to one. In the late case the Crown declined to offer any evidence. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.

[AL: Both men had previously been in the penitentiary. Rose had been released in January 1938 from Collin’s Bay Penitentiary, and Brown alias Shepley had been out since 1937. Rose would be released from this sentence in late 1940, and be back in prison by 1942.]
