Padfoot curled around Remus while he reads, head in his lap, keeping him nice and toasty, and snarling at the kids who tried to call him “Loony Lupin” or anything else. Padfoot lying across James’ legs, on his back, while he does homework, barking to startle people for fun when they walk by. Padfoot sitting on Effie’s feet, warming them up while she knits, napping, listening to music on the record player. Padfoot balled up next to Monty on the couch, listening to him read the papers aloud and then work on his crosswords. Padfoot lying in bed next to Peter, demanding scratches while he works on homework, nuzzling him lightly whenever he seems stressed. Just… Padfoot being an overprotective, massive dog that likes to take care of his humans and be a cutie (he’s the size of a black bear, most people actually think he’s terrifying).

i love the type of jily where heated arguments between them spark accidental confessions. where the chemistry between them is so undeniable that they can’t help but kiss and cross that line—these intense, explosive moments built up over years that finally erupt, and in that release, they can no longer deny whats been simmering beneath the surface.

but i also love the quieter versions of jily getting together. the kind of slow burn that takes root once they’ve found their way to true friendship. there’s something really beautiful about the unspoken decision they both make, and the way they fall into each other. after all the back and forth, the pushing and pulling, it’s almost a relief to simply be in each other’s presence—to finally understand one another. it's not about any grand romantic gesture.

instead it’s about the small, everyday moments. the subtle ways they come to trust and care for one another. it’s in the way james adds just the right amount of sugar to her tea or the way lily straightens his glasses when they’ve slipped slightly askew. it’s in the way their fingers reach out without hesitation to guide the other through the corridor—hands still intertwined long after the crowd has thinned. it’s in the way a shoulder brush leads to her head resting against his chest and his arms wrapped around her, as if it's the most natural thing in the world. a steady, almost imperceptible shift.

until one day, it’s no longer a question what they are to each other. it’s just the way they fit, the way they complement each other in the smallest, most honest ways. and somewhere along the way, it becomes impossible to imagine a world where they’re not tangled up in each other. impossible to imagine a world where they don’t choose one another over and over again.
