#BBCAfrica launches new bureau
Yesterday, March 21st, in Lagos, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), officially launched its new bureau in Lagos, and more languages in its service.
The launch was at its new home, Heritage Place in Ikoyi, Lagos, and guests were not only treated to music, food and conversations, but were also able to take a tour of the offices and the studio.
The new bureau is home to over 200 staff, state-of-the-art tv studio, as well as 2 radio studios, and 3 new languages on offer (Igbo, Pidgin and Yoruba). This means the BBC now has a total of 5 languages across West Africa, having previously operated in English and Hausa.
BBC news in Igbo, Pidgin and Yoruba reports on stories affecting the lives of audiences across the region would be available online and on social media. There is also a 60-second audio round-up, BBC Minute twice daily.
According to Jamie Angus, the Director of the BBC World Service, they will continue to invest, by launching a mentorship and internship scheme for young West African journalists.
Some of the guests at the launch included comedian, Ebiye, TV Personalities, Lamide Akintobi and Bolanle Olukanni, and celebrities like Dj Lambo, Don Jazzy and Frank Donga.
