so halcyon is my detective!crimeboys au (co-written with my best friend tommie!!)

This specific doc is of a scene where the villain breaks into their house and leaves a note being like "meet me alone or I'll kill more ppl blahblahblah" and the uno reverse part is basically wilbur is like "damn this serial killer is way too dangerous. I must come alone Without tommy" and lies to tommy about planning on going but (uno reverse) Tommy sees through his lie and ends up going himself. BUT THEN (+4 card) THE SERIAL KILLER KNEW ALL ALONG THAT THIS WOULD MOST LIKELY HAPPEN so it's a TRAP for both of them. But mostly to make Wilbur feel dumb.

Wilbur: show urself!! U got me now talk

Wilbur reads it over ten times in the first moment of silence between the two of them, brain having already picked out several clues and discarded other red herrings and meaningless flutter. They’ll have to call the police—Wilbur can already hear Phil cursing out several officers and he knows that if he goes ahead with his own investigation before telling Phil that he will be included in that list. It loathes him to wait, but he knows every little detail is crucial to the investigation and he’d rather not make CSU’s work harder than it already will be. It’s then that he registers that Tommy still hasn’t said anything, and he pauses every thought rushing in his mind to focus on him. It was stupid of him to get so distracted so quickly, he knows the sign is triggering for Tommy, he should’ve been focusing on him from the start. Wilbur turns but to his surprise, sees Tommy staring at Wilbur—not the letter—Wilbur. “Toms?” Wilbur asks, voice coming out more hesitant than he’d intended to. “Don’t go.” Tommy says, jaw clenched. Oh. “Tommy—” Wilbur starts, hands outstretched to touch his shoulder but Tommy flinches back. “No, I’m serious Wil. It’s so fucking obvious it’s a trap. I know you want to meet him face to face to “deduce him better” or some dumb bullshit, but this would just be fucking idiotic. You’d just be giving him what he wants. We need to meet him on our terms, not his.” Wilbur takes a breath, calculating and calculating and calculating. He’s right, of course, even the most dull headed investigator could see it’s a trap, but that’s the thing—Wilbur isn’t a dull headed investigator, he’s the smartest mind the country’s seen in decades, if not ever. The fact that it’s a trap doesn’t deter Wilbur, in fact it invigorates him. His mind hasn’t been this stimulated in ages. It’s a challenging puzzle indeed, figuring out a way to meet with the Egg that will let him gain control back over the situation. It’s so very satisfying and— And Tommy won’t see it that way. And Wilbur can tell that no matter how he explains it to him, he will never see it that way. And now, Wilbur could waste his breath on explaining that very thought, but one quick glance shows that even though he’s trying to put on a brave face, Wilbur can see through it. He can see the slight tremble in his hands, and the scrunch of the nose that he does when he’s trying not to cry and Wilbur— He can’t do that to Tommy, but he also can’t simply stay away from the Egg. Not when he isn’t sure that ignoring this meeting won’t cause the Egg to go into hiding again or kill another innocent soul. But he can’t tell Tommy that, so instead he lies. “Of course,” Wilbur says, and this time when he steps closer to Tommy, Tommy doesn’t move back. Wilbur cups his hand around Tommy’s cheek, voice gentle. “Where you go, I go. And besides, that’s the most piss poor attempt at a trap I’ve ever seen. It would’ve been less obvious if he’d said ‘come into the next white van you see, it has free candy’.” The tears Tommy has been holding back, manage to slip through, and Wilbur wipes them away, ever so gently. “Promise me. Promise me you won’t go, Wil.” “I promise,” he lies and it tastes like ash in his mouth.
