Shelter Dogs Receive Training in California’s Lancaster Prison
As the owner of the Los Angeles-based Drink Eat Play, Dan Silberstein oversees the promotion and management of popular events in several cities across the country. A charitable individual, Dan Silberstein often donates a portion of his company’s revenues to local animal rescue groups. Karma Rescue, an LA-based nonprofit organization dedicated to saving at-risk dogs, is celebrating the success of its new pilot program, Paws for Life. Launched in June of 2014, Paws for Life sent five rescue dogs to Lancaster Prison in Lancaster, California, where they were trained and prepared for adoption by 14 of the prison’s inmates. The dogs lived at the prison full time during the 12-week training cycle, which recently ended with a graduation ceremony held in the prison’s visitor-processing area. Both the dogs and their inmate trainers were recognized during the graduation, which took place August 14th. Four of the five dogs trained through the program have already been placed in caring homes. A new group of ten dogs will enter Paws for Life in September.
