Mushing lost one of the greats. Lance Mackey was a four time Iditarod winner. He was public with his personal struggles with addiction and with Raynaud’s syndrome. Mackey was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2001 and was an inspiration for all mushers to continue to fight to keep doing what they love through personal hardship. RIP legend.

4-time Iditarod Champion Lance Mackey's battle with cancer has him in the hospital (off and on all summer.) He was hoping to be discharged today (August 5, 2022), but no word if that happened. He spoke to Iditarod Insider's Greg Heister to give a health update. You can find it on the Iditarod's facebook page.

Saturday marked the start of the annual Yukon Quest International Sled Dog race, a 10-day journey from Whitehorse, Yukon, to Fairbanks, Alaska, 1,000 miles away.

It's not so much a race as a test of survival.

This year, veteran musher Lance Mackey is back on the trail. He's considered the Michael Jordan of the dog mushing world — an athlete who fought his way to the top.
