At first he had thought androids as nothing more than machines. But over time he began to question it. Children had always been his weakness. YK models looked and acted like any other kid. He couldn’t deniy them the same safty and security that any child needed. Lance’s heart ached seeing the child’s damage. Did that hurt? God he hoped not. He crouched down to the child’s level. "You are safe here, okay? I won't let anything happen to you. Do you need help? I can help you, you don't have to be afraid anymore."

It was a poor attempt at a joke but he didn’t mean anything by it for Jax. He could tell Jax wasn’t for it by his face alone. Which was good. He was shit at sign language. Full ASL at least. He knew various hand signals. “Do you like hockey?” He tries his hand at awkward small talk.

Lance helps volunteer as a coach for a youth hockey team of at-risk youths. Many of them he's crossed paths with when he was still on the police force, all of them good kids deep down but just put in the wrong situation or poverty. it's a sad situation. But the team helps them put their minds to something, gives them a place to be, a place to vent. He enjoys his work. He enjoyed playing hockey in his youth as well. And now he's made real bonds with these kids. When he was off the ice after being shot in the leg he missed the kids and when he finally returned it was clear they missed him too. When he hasn't been on the ice for a while he will say he missed his kids.

Lance always keeps an emergency kit and bag in his Jeep. Flashlights, batteries, flares, matches, a fully stocked and decked-out first aid kit (gauze, various bandages, sanitizer, wet wipes, antibacterial gels and ointments, anti-debris agents, Tylenol, pain gel, allergy relief, tweezers, scissors, saline, and sterile pads), nylon rope, carabiners, energy and protein bars, energy drinks, water, peanut butter crackers, a sewing kit (a few different needles, several thicknesses of thread, a thimble), thick socks, a raincoat, a winter coat, a headlamp, and a beanie. Some other items are rotated in and out as he sees the potential need for them.

Morgan has three young kids (Mia, Ava, Sophie). For a while Lance was worried about starting a relationship with Morgan due to the kids. He didn’t know if he could step up to that responsibility or how he could juggle them with his other responsibilities of helping his mom with her mental illness. But as he grows closer to Morgan he grows closer to the girls as well and quickly falls into that fatherly role for them and learns how to navigate everything he needs to not only on his own but by allowing Morgan, and others, to help and support him.

Background: Lance had a rough childhood. His father went missing when he was only ten and the man was never found. In the wake of the disappearance his mother suffered serve anxiety. Lincoln Sharp, a then detective with the local PD, took the case. When he failed to find Vic Kruger, Sharp did what he could for the family. If he couldn’t find the man then the least he could do was help his boy.

Sharp became like family to the young Lance, the only father figure he had. He made sure he got to Hockey practices, was fed, taught him to drive. Helped bring him into adulthood. In adulthood Lance choose to go into law enforcement no doubt from Sharp’s influence. But the career only lasted so long. Lance had been shot in the line of duty. While he survived his leg never full recovered. Not wanting others to die because he couldn’t keep up, he quit the force. Sharp, now retired from the force himself and running his own private investigation firm, offered Lance a job. It took some convincing but Lance agreed. When old friend Morgan Dane took up defensing the suspect for a controversial homicide case he partnered up with her to find clues of the truth. The kid was innocent and he, like her, had a softer spot for younger individuals. After the case he decided to stay a PI. From there he slowly built up his relationship with Morgan as they worked other major cases together and had their offices in the same building. For a while he was unsure what could ever happen between them. With her young children and his mother’s illness it didn’t feel like it could work. Perhaps he was wrong?

Lance grew up playing Hockey and currently coaches a team of at risk youths and mentors them. He enjoys being on the ice and feels guilty if he spends too much time away from the kids on the team.

He checks on his mother daily to make sure she takes her medication, knows he is well, and that she isn’t hording anything from her online shopping sprees.

I’m a private investigator, not a cop.” He added the last bit as a potential reassurance he was used to people being put on edge by his appearance and the desire to ask questions. He might not be a cop, anymore, but he still held a well built intimidating appearance. “Do you know a child by the name of Mayson Oursler-Anderson? I’m searching for him.” The boy had seemingly ran away and while the DPD was on the case he was pulled in on it as well. His mother, Ava having hired him wanting as many people on the search as possible.
