Sharp's wife divorced him early on in their marriage due to many different conflicts. He wanted kids, she didn't, she didn't like him having a dangerous job, he didn't want to be anything else, he worked long hours into the night, etc. Things just did not mesh well. He liked when he worked late hours it meant his wife would be asleep when he got home. It was the death of his work partner that led to everything truly falling apart.

Background:
Lincoln Sharp, often going by Sharp, was with the Scarlet Falls police department for over 25 years. Working so long as a detective in a relatively smaller town, he knows most of the local law enforcement. When he retired he opened his own private investigations firm.
He prefers a very healthy lifestyle staying in shape and having a 'green and crunchy organic diet. He is able to do more than men half his age due to his health-focused eating and exercise. He doesn't drink coffee or alcohol but will often meet 'the boys', his retired cop buddies down at the local bar for drinks. The owner keeps a special drink on hand just for him.
Years ago Sharp was married but ended up getting a divorce when he didn't want to quit his job and his wife didn't like how dangerous the occupation was. Not too long after while he was still a detective with the PD he was assigned a missing person's case for Victor Kruger and ended up taking Vic's young son, 10-year-old Lance under his wing. If he couldn't find Victor the least he could do is help his boy.
Twenty-three years later Sharp is retired with his own PI business and the now-grown Lance has joined Sharp's private investigation firm.
He has a soft spot for children and animals and those in need. He is willing to help those in need no matter who they are, but will particularly take up investigations as favors to friends, neighbors, and family.
He was recently taking care of a stray dog living behind his office. Feeding her and talking gently to her slowly helping her warm up to humans. After seeing how fast she was he named her rocket. Rocket would go on to be adopted by Morgan Dane, a work associate of his and Lance's and Lance's love interest.
Later in the year, an unexpected part of his past suddenly showed up. The widow of his deceased best friend. Eliza came to Sharp and Morgan Dane to ask for help. Her daughter Hailey was being accused of a murder she didn't commit. Even when he didn't know all the facts, he still agreed. He was willing to help a friend and trusted she was right. Furthermore, Hailey had a medical condition that was being ignored. That wasn't okay.
He worked hard to prove Hailey's innocence along with Morgan and Lance. While Morgan worked the legal end and Lance tried to get information, Sharp working to protect Eliza and Hailey in their home from angry protesters who believed Hailey really was the killer and was let off free. This resulted in an explosion when someone set fire to the building, that severely wounded Sharp with metal in his side. He was saved by Hailey. Only for her to be taken at gunpoint by the real murders. He slipped unconscious watching and feeling helpless that he wasn't able to save her.
Thankfully Lance and Morgan were able to track the killers down and not only save Hailey's life but clear her name. Sharp survived his injuries and was recovering in the hospital when Eliza and Hailey came to thank him for everything he did, and to inform him they were moving across the country to start a new after everything. Sharp made a good recovery and slowly was on the mend.
Around this time he met Olivia Cruz. A reporter turned true-crime novelist. Working together on several cases Sharp and co were working, they slowly built a relationship with one another, with a growing bond. Sharp always had a disdain for reporters yet Olivia somehow made her way into his heart. After surviving a near-fatal encounter with a group of drug lords and fighting together, they admitted their feelings for one another and started dating.
A few months later Olivia was kidnapped and Sharp nearly worked himself to the ground with worry and determination as he searched for clues to who took her. He was successful in finding her and fought with her captures, along with Lance and Morgan. The traumatic event solidified their relationship status from uncommitted to a firmly committed.
When the young woman, Gianna, who was taken in by Morgan, needed a new kidney Sharp volunteered to be tested for compatibility and turned out to be a match. His response when asked why, was that it's what friends do, they help each other. It was clear that Gianna was part of Morgan's family and Sharp saw the family as part of his as well. And he would do anything for his family.
