February's zine! Each scene is a 4-page spread making up a 16-page booklet. Originally, I was just going to draw one bug per page, but I got more than 16 bugs, and I am fond of making scenes and telling stories anyway, so that's what I went with. :)
[Comic summary: The two have finally arrived to The City of Tears. Hollow gets really excited and runs off, so Hornet has to catch them with a silk lasso. They're stopped by a Lance sentry who is mysteriously still alive. Hornet reveals her identity as The Gendered Child and basically tells the sentry to mind her own business. /End summary.]
Full transcript below the cut.
Comic location: The City of tears is a metal city with constant rain. The buildings have a fancy skyscraper feel to them, and there are tons of elevator shafts everywhere. It has been oversimplified into various shades of blue for sake of comic style.
Panel one: Hornet is standing just outside of the large elevator from the Forgotten Crossroads, which is currently out of frame. She says "Alright, we arrived. Now, stay close-"
Panel two: "-To me." She finishes her sentence in surprise as Hollow dashes past in a blur.
Panel three: "HEY!! Get back here!" She yells at them, all four arms coming out of her cloak. There are white lines around her to emphasize how loud she's yelling.
Panel four: Hollow is running and a white lasso of silk is above them.
Panel five: They get lassoed and pulled back by the silk, which dramatically stops their run and makes their limbs flail in front of them.
Panel six: Hornet is now standing in front of them, holding onto the silk like a leash. She's glaring at them, and scolds them saying, "You can't just run off like that. You have to stay close to me. This place isn't exactly sied for you."
Panel seven: A mysterious voice cries "HALT!!" from off screen, which makes her turn around in surprise with a "Huh?"
Panel eight: "The king has ordered a complete lockdown of the city! State your titles and business immediately." A flying lance sentry demands of the two of them, having a stern look on her face. Hornet, who is barely on screen, makes a snarky comment saying, "Huh. So some of your are still alive." Undestandably, the Sentry responds quickly with a surprised "What??"
Panel nine: "Nevermind that for now. I am the Gendered child and they are the Hollow Knight. Our business is our own." Hornet confidently states, her eyes narrowed. Meanwhile Hollow is halfway taking off the lasso, but got caught off guard by what Hornet said. Several question marks and exclaimation points are around their head.
Panel ten: "O-oh. My bad, ma'am. I did not realize you would be visiting today. Would you like me to inform the others of your presence?" The Lance sentry is now flustered, somewhat taken aback in shock. Hornet deadpan responds with "Yes, that would be nice. Now, go on." She's met with a quick "Yes ma'am!"
Okay, I should probably call it a Fantasy AU or something by now.
I was stuck on how to interpret the flying insects’ wings for a while, but then I remembered that I had a man-faced stag creature and a vampire demon child and just went “Screw it”.
So there, I drew versions with different types of wings or with cloaks instead of wings, as well as some harpies.
