Welcome.

This blog--really more of a photo essay/documentation project--was started to chronicle the rapidly changing landscape of Charlotte's West Side. The blog's title was inspired by an interview that was done as part of The West Side People's Story Project, a digital storytelling project led by: @BettyYu, @guatemalia and J'Tanya Adams. In our story project we believe that language is power, and we encourage our storytellers to use words that 'matter to them' to describe what's happening in their neighborhood, and more often than not, what's being lost in the process. This blog represents a visual depiction of the process we hear about, and which I see in my neighborhood. The majority of pictures are within walking distance of my house--and a few others come from travel to communities facing similar dynamics. For the most part I'll let them pictures speak for themselves, and limit additional text.

New Orleans haiku series (ft. Bywater, French Quarter, Orleans Parish). May 31 // 'til 3 pm

long days feel longer  when you have to recap them reflection is good?

periodically woken by rain at windows need urging from bed

slow start Saturday with coffee cups and raincoats Bywater beckons

A parking nightmare: New Orleans. Claire gains headache but patient for food

Food. Eventually. Small corner spot with omelettes while rain still falls

Men at the counter make no effort to conceal  their liquids and pride

The city still shines under Saint-crested ponchos.   Pause; must pay meter.

Stories of the same  water, but so much more of it and ill-intentioned

Rising on the Coast eroding more than just land. Are we resilient?
