Landmarq: Entertaining Angels

Je soupçonne qu'il faudrait que je lance une nouvelle section sur ce blog, intitulée "je n'aime pas X, mais..." – X étant, au choix, le rétro-progressif, les histoires de superhéros ou, comme dans le cas de Entertaining Angels, le nouvel album de Landmarq, le rock progressif à voix féminines.

D'ailleurs, ma première (et, jusqu'alors, unique) rencontre avec ce groupe britannique de néo-prog s'est faite via The Vision Pit, album sorti à l'époque où c'était Damian Wilson qui officiait au micro du groupe avant qu'il ne s'envole vers un demi-million de projets. Depuis, c'est Tracy Hitchings, également présente sur un demi-million de projets prog et assimilés (souvent les mêmes, d'ailleurs) qui l'a remplacé.

Alors, bon, posons tout de suite les choses: je ne suis pas un fan de la dame. Elle a un timbre assez particulier qui a tendance à me porter sur les nerfs à la longue. Fort heureusement pour mesdits nerfs, au long des huit morceaux de l'album, il y a de longues plages instrumentales plutôt bien réussies.

Il faut dire que Landmarq, avec plus de vingt ans d'expérience (même si sont précédent album studio date de 1998...), connaît bien son affaire. Oh, rien de follement original: ça rappelle pas mal un autre groupe de néo-prog de la même époque, Arena, mais en plus posé.

Entertaining Angels est un groupe partiellement fidèle à son titre: il est distrayant. Je doute par contre qu'il passionne les anges – ou même les tenants d'un rock progressif un tant soit peu original.
