kinda cannot stop thinking about lando getting genuinely uncomfortable and a bit weird when people talk about his acts of kindness. the whole ‘that’s cute’ thing he always says, or like!!!! the time he got defensive and started questioning an interviewer who mentioned him paying for george’s friends’ drinks on george’s birthday, only to learn george himself shared that. it has to be connected to what i’ve said before about his default state of being misunderstood — you cannot control how people are going to react to you, so instead it’s more manageable to keep a closer lid on what comes out, and let those things fit into the mold you’ve been given, regardless of how well the mold itself actually fits you. and it seems silly to get defensive over something that reflects well on your character coming out but once again this was an action that came from him and the genuine kindness of his heart. it’s representative of who he feels he actually is instead of who people think he is. so it doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad or even inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. what matters is he keeps his careful divide of public v. private and somehow this slipped past him onto the wrong side. even if it’s not a bad thing to know, you aren’t supposed to know it at all.
over and over again lando says honestly i’m lying to you. this is a game and i am winning it because you have never once properly understood me so why would i tell you the truth. but he is unfortunately deeply genuine by nature. and he’s always saying that he’s telling the truth. because people are going to interpret it however they want, even if he says exactly what he means. paraphrased from his own mouth ‘i’ve learned to think it’s funny when people misunderstand me.’ ‘the things people come up with his unbelievable, it can be fun to play with that .’ ‘if i were to have another job outside of f1 it would be something like graphic design, with a lot of creative expression.’ (‘do you like expressing yourself?’) ‘no. i don’t /:’ ‘if i wasn’t in f1 id be a golfer. or a designer’ . even about little shit like ‘what happened to bleaching my hair? i only said that to agree with that guy’ ‘oh you’ve ruined perfectly good ice cream with coffee /: i hate coffee.’ (posts a black and white picture of a drink from a cafe.) (posts it again in color and it’s matcha) haha :P. this is my room tour. oh, this on the shelf? its my morning latte *sipping it*. (asked who is most likely to foot the bill?) has to be me (heard you paid for george’s birthday drinks) *annoyed* who would even tell you that?? most recently it’s ‘no these new cars are soooo different. they feel like f2 cars’ ‘i’m having fun driving these new cars i’m enjoying the challenge but if he isn’t he can retire’ ‘yes i did rage bait everyone and say that i liked driving the cars. and they believed me. wasn’t that funny :P’ like. do you understand yet. he’s a bug who’s aware of the microscope. the animal who finds the cameras in his enclosure and reacts with disdain. he’s tampering with the observation on purpose.
a landoism i can’t help but love is that when he’s in a bad mood he does do his very best to withdraw or disengage and be quiet and polite but everyone within a 30ft radius of him can literally feel the rancid awful energy emanating from him like storm clouds. i find it so hard to call him disingenuous when he literally wears his feelings all over his body and his face and he can’t help it and you can tell he hates that he can’t help it </3
oh God. y’all really want me to talk til i’m blue in the face huh?
disclaimer: this chart reading is limited, as lando has not shared his birth time and because of that, i can’t know his rising sign. if i had to guess, it feels like his chart ruler is either mercury (gemini/virgo) or venus (taurus/libra) but that’s just my initial thought, purely based on vibes. i’ll do my reading with no rising sign, as i would rather be ill-informed than flat out wrong.
if you haven’t seen lando’s chart + aspects, it looks something like this:
and if this is all shapes and colors to you, don’t worry!!! dr. yaps-a-lot is here!!!
first thing first, holy fuck there’s a lot of mars and saturn influence. like, there is so much of both. this is not uncommon for an athlete’s chart, as when we think of mars, we think of action and when we think saturn, we think of discipline. his sun and mercury are both in scorpio, moon and mars are in capricorn, and his libra is in venus. his saturn is in taurus, and although saturn is a more outer planet and it moves very slowly, i will talk a bit on his saturn because it is so fucking prevalent in his chart. it aspects three of his major placements.
we’ll start with basics, with his scorpio sun. we all know the stereotypes for scorpio suns (moody, possessive lying liars) so i won’t expand too much about those traits. your sun sign is supposed to frame your approach or perspective, and scorpio is a fixed sign ruled by mars — the planet of action, strategy, ambition; the physical means with which you use to achieve your goals. lando’s incredibly dedicated and incredibly passionate about what he does, we know this. he’s got a strong loyalty to his beliefs. he is firm and uncompromising about the convinctions he holds as true. scorpio also rules the subconscious or unknown, which means that the sun is not necessarily comfortable here but lando exhibits scorpio sun behavior clearly and constantly. (this is in part because his sun and mercury are conjunct — very few degrees of separation between them and they often amplify, or work in tandem with one another.) he’s observant and intuitive, and he knows what to do or say/how to do or say it to achieve what he wants, or at the very least, recognize what the other person is trying to gain from him and put up every possible roadblock if he has decided to oppose them. scorpio in general, is a sign i find that has an interesting juxtaposition between all of their ideals — when they choose to be direct or when they choose to be subtle, when they are stuck in a belief versus when they can sort of give in and betray an ideal. a scorpio is never as simple as what they first present themselves as, and they know to always look past the surface. more over, they expect you to be doing the same.
mercury in a birth chart represents communication - it shapes the way you communicate with the world and express yourself entirely. in scorpio, it means he’s a very intuitive communicator. one of the most interesting landoisms is how receptive he is to the other person in the conversation, especially when it comes to his own self-perception and how he alters the way he acts to alter the way he is being perceived, as i talked about previously. a ‘more traditional’ sun conjunct mercury individual is able to communicate a more unified approach in how they share themselves with others — there’s an alignment or harmony with the things they say/believe and the things they do. however, lando’s mercury is in retrograde, which means things are not as straightforward for him. (a planet in retrograde is just a planet moving in the opposite of it’s intended direction — meaning, it will sometimes do the opposite of what it’s intended to do.) his style of communication is not as direct as one might traditionally see with this aspect. adding to that, his mercury is in the sign of scorpio, which as i’ve said represents the unknown/subconscious. he can come across as contradictory, or confusing. in the aforementioned post i said (from his perspective) people are dedicated to misunderstanding him — this is what i’m talking i’m about. what lando communicates, he intends as genuine. But what you interpret could be entirely the opposite of what of he intended. just because lando is frank and direct, does not mean that he’s clear or forthcoming. this is maybe why the media or general public can have a hard time discerning what he means most of the time — it’s hard for those who don’t know him well to know when he’s joking and when he’s serious, when he’s lying and when he’s telling the truth. and on top of that, he tells all his lies just as honestly as he speaks all his truths. he can make it Purposefully hard to understand him, perhaps because he’s tired of trying the opposite, or perhaps because there is some small comfort in the aspect of being misunderstood. (if someone has the wrong impression of you, whatever they say can’t really hurt you right? because whatever they think is not True anyways)
his sun also opposes his saturn. saturn represents a lot of things astrologically; control, discipline, consequences, structure, obligation. (an opposition is when two planets are 180 degrees from one another — representing two opposing facets of the same ideal in a way). for him to be most successful, he has to find balance in these two aspects. this is where that struggle for control i talked about before comes from, and it’s a huge part of why he’s overly self-critical. lando has always held himself to impossible expectations, and struggles most with his own disappointment when he fails to meet those goals, even if they were maybe not achievable goals in the first place. a large part of his personal sense of pride is attached to whether or not he can succeed at the things he sets out to do. it’s important for him not to sabotage himself in regards to his own sense of ego/self, because other parts of his chart actually set him up well to achieve his goals. too much, uncontrolled shame and self-doubt could be the biggest thief of all his joy and success. in taurus, saturn will often find the most success in consistency, and sticking firm to their ideals — we see this a lot in lando’s work ethic. he is consistent with his approach, often the last to leave the track, building a strong relationship with the team and understanding that every little bit of progress he makes will give way into bigger kinds of progress later.
since we’re talking saturn, let’s get into his capricorn moon and mars. his moon and his mars are conjunct, and additionally, his sun sextiles both of these placements. (a sextile is often a favorable aspect, it means there’s 60 degrees of separation between the two placements, leading to a complementary relationship with them — bringing balance or harmony, in this case.) the conjunctions in his chart are certainly part of what makes his individuality so strong and definite, but the moon-mars conjunction in particular definitely plays a lot in the rest of his chart . it tells us that his passions are what drive him forward, and his dedication for doing something will only get stronger with the more joy he feels in its execution. this conjunction could also play into why people are sometimes so reactive when he shares how he really thinks or feels — because they think he is being intentionally combative, when in reality, he is just expressing his own view of the world.
the moon represents your emotional world, and your inner perception of self. lando’s moon being in capricorn is so fucking fitting. he’s pragmatic, headstrong, defiant, guarded and overly self-critical. capricorn often represents where there is more structure and order in an area of someone’s chart, but the moon is detriment in capricorn. your inner emotional world is a deepily illogical and vulnerable place, and lunar capricorns are people who look to logic and pragmatism to create a sense of order and safety. people with this placement feel things very deeply, though. any feeling too strong for them to understand or control must be suppressed, and if can’t be, they’ll likely throw themselves head-over-foot into whatever goals they have to ignore the feeling anyhow. usually, any attempts to suppress or control emotions they don’t understand lead to the emotions controlling them in ways they don’t recognize. and i mean, i think it’s clear lando does Not enjoy expressing a lot of emotion. (his moon trines his saturn: he takes pride in being able to control and restrain his emotions.) he would much rather come across as cool and unaffected, especially if he doesn’t trust you. trust is a HUGE thing for capricorn moons — very hard to gain, very easy to lose. they usually have a harder time trusting people who are flakier or inconsistent emotionally. i often think of when lando and luisa broke up, and he spent a good few months literally never sitting still. he picked up fucking dj’ing so he had a day job AND a nighttime hobby. or i think of how long it took him a bit more time to really open up and understand daniel, someone that lives a lot in emotional extremes/floats between them frequently. or how he gets really snippy and one worded in interviews where he is clearly upset, or has disdain for whoever he is speaking to. capricorn moons are often little lockboxes with their feelings, and keep them hidden even from those close to them, for fear a few different things. they want you to glean as little as possible from them, at the very least until they can better process/understand what it is they’re feeling themselves.
i’ve already talked a lot about mars, but let’s dig into mars in capricorn right quick. this is sexyyy, to me. capricorn loves to be in mars - it’s all about productivity, and mars loves taking action. he’s incredibly disciplined and goal-oriented but probably doesn’t allow himself to enjoy the fruits of his labor nearly enough. he is headstrong in succeeding anyways. i don’t find him to be showboaty or cocky. rather, he leads more by doing or showing and less by saying. generally, he’s also going to feel more rewarded when he sees the tangible results of the work he’s putting in. he may not be patient, but he is persistent. eventually, he will get there and he will get there his way [mars trines his saturn]. he’s just as determined as he is cautious, and he has an impossible amount of focus for the things he wants to achieve. it’s why failing while learning something new doesn’t scare him off. he doesn’t stop playing golf despite the fact that he’s not great at it — he likes golfing, so he took the time to learn how to do it himself, and there is some level of pride in that. circling back to what i said about moon conjunct mars: the things he has passion for, he loves to do and he throws himself into them totally. think of his revolving door of hobbies, how he gets fixated on one for weeks or months at a time and then once the passion dissipates, he moves on to the next one. all the aforementioned warnings of being overly doubtful or self critical still stand, but lando has talked about not believing himself but trying anyways. at least twice before! i find that to be a very mars in capricorn sentiment, or a very unique way to use self doubt as a sense of motivation at the least. having the motivation to try something knowing you’re going to fail over and over again comes from nothing but passion, though that’s a very realistic way to look at trying and doing and learning.
and now, let’s talk venus in libra. i think his whole chart is gorgeous, but this is one of my favorite placements ever. venus represents your relationships with and to other people. libra is in its domicile (home planet) — it’s comfortable and thriving here. in short, a libra venus is someone who might prioritize the traditional pleasures in life: they like beautiful people, places, things and ideas. think him traveling to absurd corners of the world, all his rumored partners being models, all of his cars are customized down to the very smallest details. they don’t stay single for long, and take a lot of stock in nurturing the relationships around them, as they rely very much on their support system to help guide them through things.
people who have venus in libra are very charming and affable by nature — most people lando meet end up really liking him. even when you don’t want to like him, you’ll end up being charmed by him sometimes. he’s kind, thoughtful and by nature, dedicated to what he considers just or fair. libra placements often get painted as a peacemaker, but in the case of libra venus, i more see it as them trying to figure out what you need/what the dynamic needs and prioritizing that, to instill a ‘peace’ that comes from balance. think of lando’s relationship with daniel versus with oscar. daniel was louder and goofier by nature, and older, so lando felt he had more of a chance to step back, let daniel lead, be a bit quieter and more chilled. oscar was more serious and much more reserved at first, so lando took it upon himself to be a bit louder and sillier. he lead in bridging that gap — so that oscar would eventually feel comfortable enough to do the same.
people with venus in libra traditionally enjoy feeling needed, and might look for opportunities to do so. (in my mind’s eye, i’m replaying the video of lando grabbing carlos’ gloves from where carlos set them down, just so he could hand them to carlos put them on.) however, those with this placement do need to be cautious and firm with the boundaries they set. with no boundaries set, they can let people take advantage of them, or let people rely on them too heavily, and those who offer them them nothing in return will cause them to feel great amounts of resentment and distrust. this paired with his capricorn moon+mars, and the intensity of which a scorpio sun feels, i imagine he must be a very forgiving person when he cares strongly for someone, and it took him quite some time to learn how to set these boundaries, and to learn how to navigate relationships with everything he can offer. as always, with any libra placement, the beauty lives in the balance.
i’m gonna step off my soapbox but before i do, i want to point out his north node. the north node is supposed to be the goal you’re working towards in this lifetime. lando’s north node is in leo, which means most of the work he’s going to do in this lifetime is directly related to developing his sense of self, strengthening his self-expression and reassessing the relationship he has to intimacy and vulnerability. in the context of the rest of his chart, i find that particularly hilarious. oh my sweet sweet landito, the stars really had it out for you….
i have minor complaints about the lando gq article but overall i enjoyed it a lot!!! i do tend to hoard landofacts like they matter 2 anyone else but me so here are some small gems from the read that will stick in my brain forever:
he doesn’t think of himself as ‘handsome’ but ‘doesn’t mind when other people do’ ??? girl what does that even mean. of course you wouldn’t mind that. it’s a compliment
he’s 5-10 mins late to everything. so true king i personally relate like 8:07am is 8:00am. whatever.
his accent being described as ‘oddly international’.
the way the author of the article described lando as ‘physically scrunching himself into the brown leather seat’ scrunching himself. unfortunately that’s very cute
the reiteration to every interviewer he meets that sunglasses are for headaches and light sensitivity, not to look cool or douchey
him describing himself as ‘quiet and chill’ and the author describing him as ‘nice, modest, if a bit sulky’
‘i think that calmness and coolness is why he’s so consistent’ (via zak brown)
-> ‘because of that coolness. things like norris giving his car the middle finger (...) are endearing: they aren’t temper tantrums, just slight — and very human — displays of exasperation’
he considers himself a ‘fair loser’ and he ‘loves to listen’, in addition to giving ‘excellent technical feedback’ (via zak brown)
describes himself as very self critical: his first thought is always ‘what could i have done better’ and then, after ‘what could the team have done better’
most perfect landoism to me is his how randomly defiant he is when he’s repeatedly asked a question, or the question has an obvious answer. ex) hasn’t posted on lando.jpg in months but every time someone asks if he’s done with that he rolls his eyes and says No <3 and miinddd you. they asked him this because he is usually spotted with camera in hand.
got the general sense that lando was a person who was chronically a little bit late to everything based on vibes n media n stuff but him showing up to fp3 while cars are already on track and signing autographs is sooo funnyy. sweet and also hilarious. they said he was ‘ambling in’. big on the fuck it i’m already late i might as well be a little bit later energy. he’s real for that
