This weekend I happened to run into three different women - at the post office, grocery store, yoga studio - who recognized me and told me they'd read my book, and how it had really impacted them and others they know. I often hear from so many readers on social media, email etc but it was so wonderful to actually see and speak to them in person. I'd been feeling discouraged by how hard it is to actually sell books as a self-published author, but this really reminded me how important it is to keep trying! Every once in awhile I feel the urge to just completely disconnect from social media ... to focus more on simply living moments as opposed to also recording them, "capturing" them, sharing them. Less screen mediated interactions. Not that those aren't valuable.. it's just that sometimes there's a sense of urgency that takes control... "I've got to get this posted" or "I have to get to those messages" or "I can't miss this great photo op". Taking a step back allows me to refocus my priorities. What do I want Lily to learn from watching me? What REALLY is feeding my soul at this moment? In the grand scheme of things, what is REALLY important? I think many of the most wonderful experiences and moments are those that overwhelm all of your senses - touch, sounds, scents, tastes.. it's hard to find those through a screen. And I want Lily to feel my presence and attention, as undistracted as possible (I'll admit this is totally a work in progress - queen of multi-tasking over here 😳). My sweet pea slept the whole flight home she was so exhausted from our busy week! Think my favourite part about flying is the snuggles. It made me realize how rare it is nowadays for me to just hold Lily while she sleeps. It the beginning I held her constantly, but as now that she's older I feel like I'm always quick to busy myself with other things. So this was a sweet reminder to savour these precious moments while I can. 💕 #lilyorysia #landonslegacy

Our trip to BC has almost come to an end! (We leave tomorrow afternoon). There's been so many highlights - one of the best being visiting @emmahansen @aaronvandenbrink and their wonderful family!! Lily got to test out Reid's brother's toys and had a blast (this mirror was also a big hit!). She also had so much fun with the Christmas tree and dancing to good tunes (she's got rhythm!). She slept through most of our adventures in the city but got a taste of authentic West Coast winter ☔️. We can't wait to be back to visit once baby boy is here earthside!!! #landonslegacy #reidslegacy #rainbowbabies #lilyorysia

One year ago, I had a vivid dream. In it, I was holding my book, Landon's Legacy. I saw the cover. On it was a photo of me on a swing set at sunrise, the photo I had taken with the self-timer on my phone at Winnipeg Beach a few weeks after Landon died. I'd taken the photo while on an early morning walk with my dog Cody. (Justin and I were spending the weekend at a friend's cottage.) Later that day, I was going through my photos and noticed the empty baby swing beside me. I hadn't noticed it at the time, nor did it dawn on me just how fitting and symbolic this was until then. I got chills. And now here we are, one year later. Lily in my arms, and very very close to holding my book in my hands. I am so immensely grateful for @kerrilynn for helping me turn the vision for this cover into reality. And THANKYOU to all of you... I'm am in awe of how amazing this community is. I couldn't have done any of this without your love, support and encouragement. 😄💕 Writing this book, along with planning the retreats, has really been what's gotten me through my hardest times. In many ways, the love, energy and time I've poured into it has been like my way of "raising" Landon. My book release date is July 8 (Landon's 2nd birthday), McNallyRobinson's at 7pm. After sharing Lily’s birth story on my blog, I received many messages from moms who were diagnosed with ICP after realizing they were experiencing the same symptoms as mine. Many told me they would never have known to get tested had they not read about Lily. Others messaged me saying they had noticed their friend or family member itching and told them about my story and urged them to get information and testing. I’ve even had doctors and midwives contact me and thank me for sharing my experience with ICP, because it urged them to be more proactive with testing itchy moms and they were able to catch cases that might have otherwise gone un-diagnosed. It makes me proud that not only has #LandonsLegacy impacted people all over the world in such a profound way, but also it’s possible that through sharing his story and now Lily’s birth story, that the lives of other babies have been saved. I realize this is very belated, but because my blog entry is now difficult to find and my Instagram has a much further reach, I’ve decided to share the story here (in 5 parts).
