"The aim was to cultivate a sense of limitless public space, where diverse activities unfold in physically separated yet visually connected areas. Users can engage in various actions while maintaining visibility with one another. The activity lawn seamlessly integrates with the social square, offering space for dog walking, picnics, Frisbee sports, and other recreational activities. Children playing on the lawn can forge close friendships, while parents relaxing in the social square can engage in conversations, sharing life ideas and parenting experiences. Through this design approach, we aspire to foster natural communication among users, making it the most comfortable and inviting social space within the community."

"The torsion of the ascending spiral is resolved in a concentric digital model formed by radial ribs and a central beam, understood as a set of solidary elements. This model unfolds into flat figures of the different pieces, which are cut with CNC on large format sheets of 3000x9000 mm. In turn, these elements - which include semi-cuts for welded joints - are rolled for curvatures and assembled in the factory in nine equal modules plus three adjustment modules for the ends. Then, these prefabricated components are mounted on the in-situ pillars. The shims, both for the terrain slopes and for the construction elements, were tested in different physical scale models, which anticipated the work."

"While initially catering to young students, the multifunctional public park is open to users of all age groups, inviting a proper integration of the University of Silesia‘s academic community with local inhabitants and the surrounding nature. Being part of a post-military, wooded, and neglected neighborhood area, Activity Zone brings back life to Chorzów by attracting frequent visits, gradually transforming an abandoned place into a safe park.

The concrete platform is an accessible feature for disabled people and opens up room for activities like biking, rollerblading, and skateboarding. In addition, the perforation allows SLAS architekci (see more here) to accommodate all these different programs while preserving each existing tree to provide shade and prevent overheating. Enhancing the sensory experience, the platform is enriched with a palette of colors, textures, and scents, creating a vivid garden amid the neglected area. Lastly, all proposed materials (concrete, steel, wood, tree bark, and sports rubber surface) are durable, easy to maintain, and affordable.

Pier 26, the latest segment of Hudson River Park, opened to the public in September 2020. Conceived more than 20 years ago

“ The team conceptualized the park as a transect through the indigenous ecologies of the Manhattan shoreline and out into the estuary itself. These eco-zones—the Woodland Forest, the Coastal Grassland, the Maritime Scrub, and finally the Rocky Tidal Zone and the estuary—recall the shoreline conditions which would have been found along Manhattan Island prior to colonial settlement. The Woodland Forest is densely populated with dozens of indigenous tree, shrub, and groundcover species, all welcoming habitat for pollinators. The Coastal Grassland is breezy and open, accommodating much of the park’s active programming. The Maritime Scrub is a ruggedly beautiful landscape, its sandy soil mix populated with hardy, low shrubs and conifers. Past the pier’s edge lies the Tide Deck and the Rocky Tidal Zone. This entirely constructed wetland, built more than 700 feet from shore, features a field of more than 1,300 granite boulders interspersed with switchgrass. Circular depressions carved into the boulders catch water as the tide ebbs. This eco-zone has quickly become a haven for a variety of algae, plant, and animal life, with myriad species sighted within the constructed riverscape just days after it was completed”
