So at swim today we were going to take out lane lines and then the coach decided to leave them in and so she pointed at the lane line reels and said "go put those back in the closet" and honestly it took all of my energy not to shout out "me"

5: What part was hardest to write?

The plot came SO quickly to me, and it was basically outlined in a handful of hours with just having to flesh out the finer details. However, trying to write out those into full scenes was pretty difficult in some cases, especially because it's all Steve's POV and he's a pretty insular character for most of the fic where he cannot see how much he's hurting other people around him. It was hard balancing him into a character that you still want to root for. Also, the swimming scenes. It got to a point where I was like how am I going to describe swimming that's different from the other 349271 times I've described it???

#16: Do you write by hand, on your phone, or on your laptop?

It's usually a mix between my laptop and my phone. The days of writing by hand are long gone, although back in high school I used to write by hand in the middle pages of my math and history books so I could tear them out and write it up in the library.

#34: How much of your personal life/experience do you include in your fics?

Not very much to be honest. lane lines probably has the most "real life" experience in it but mostly because I followed swimming extremely closely and went to a World Champs with a press pass so I know how the behind-the-scenes of a championships works. However, I have one fic outlined that is based on my job and a real thing that happened.

#35: What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted?

Ack, this is hard! Probably love languages because it kickstarted a short creative streak back in 2018.

#36: What fic are you proudest of?

lane lines because I truly never thought I could do it and I'm super proud of the story and how it turned out.

#4: what’s your favorite line of dialogue?

This is hard because it's so stupidly long and I feel like I haven't read it in forever. But one of the lines I really like is this one from Clint, because in that moment, it's what Steve really needs to hear:

“You know we love you, right? You. Not Steve the Olympian or the gold medalist or the Speedo ambassador.”

#9: were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Not really. The only things that could have changed were the NCAA results (it was originally a loss) and the Stark rooftop scene wasn't in the initial outline.

#5: what part was hardest to write?

I'd say writing about swimming races. After a while, I think there comes to a point where you have no more words or sentences that feel unique enough for racing. Also perhaps trying to toe the right line of Steve's behaviour to keep people still wanting to root for him, even when he keeps making mistakes.

11: What do you like best about this fic?

I'm really proud of the story. I think the arcs and the plot are interesting and I think the time I spent prepping everything and researching was worth it. I'm thrilled that not only did I complete the story within four months, but that I'm also actually incredibly happy with it overall. There's a few minor things I'd change, but nothing huge.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

Probably the benefit of having a detailed outline. I wrote the bones of it in about 3 hours, fleshed it out over the course of a week, and then I started writing. Looking back on the initial outline, it didn't deviate a lot from my first visualisation. It grew for sure and there's a few scenes I added, but overall it was pretty much how I envisioned it.
