The word extraordinary or extra-ordinary has always confused me. You'd think extraordinary would mean 'exceptionally ordinary' -- but it actually means to be outside of the ordinary. So as a prefix "extra-" means outside whereas the stand alone adverb "extra" means exceptionally.
