"I just wanted to feel tall." (anyone you want!)
Landon wiped the sweat off his brow with his tanned forearm. The weatherman predicted it’d be a hot one, and he didn’t flub it up for once. His removed the handkerchief from his pocket and used it to mop up the remaining sweat so he could survey the ride he worked on for the carnival. These were the things he enjoyed to do in his town; to work on the festivals that they threw throughout the year because he felt it brought the townsfolk, and visitors, closer together.
After he got most of the sweat off his face he returned to his work but was quickly distracted by someone standing on an old tree stump. He tried to be good about remembering everyone’s name but this particular girl drew a blank. They’d spoke before, he remembered that, but it may have only been online. There was a drink in her hand and she looked as if she enjoyed her new-found height.
“Are you having fun?” Landon walked over, which was a couple of feet, to check in on her. “I’d ask if you’d like company but I don’t think the both of us can fit on that stump.”
The girl, who he thought might be Lauren? Or maybe Laura? Either way she looked at him with a grin, which caused his own to spread. She balanced on the stump but there was an obvious drunken movement to it and he wondered how many of those beverages she had. He was about to ask if she needed a hand down, which would have caused him to laugh given there wasn’t that much of a drop. "I just wanted to feel tall." she said, drinking from the plastic cup before giggling.
Landon, amused, jokingly said, “I think you need a taller stump to reach my height.” He extended his hand out to her. “Come on. There’s a ferris wheel around here. Think that’ll be more what you’re after.”
