Lanolin is not just a good character because of her unrealized potential. She ALSO HAS a lot of unrealized potential, but she was already a good character just from what we already saw of her.

Also, like. Using her unceremonious ejection from the story as a reason to disparage her is just... Like, you caused that, non-specific lanolin-hating strawman. That was literally your doing, you took to Twitter with such loud, naked bigotry that Sega got scared and pulled the plug on her. To then turn around and cite her sabotaged arc, THAT YOU CAUSED, as a reason why she sucks, is downright offensive.

And to reiterate, even with how things turned out she is STILL a good character. Bite me.

List of Lanolin/Maggie headcanons inspired by @firecurls-27 Rough and Tumble post

Her mother’s name is Fleece (not my idea stole it from others)

Her dad left them both when she was young Lanolin barely remembers him only that her mother started working a lot more after it.

She got a lot of her work ethic from Fleece who was the mayor’s aide in Riverside when Lanolin lived there. Nowadays she actually is the mayor, though Lanolin doesn’t know this.

Fleece is very particular about how others see her and her daughter, basically your typical controlling mother. 

They were a middle class family but Fleece was always looking to improve their standing.

Fleece called Lanolin “My Lanny” and now Lanolin hates that nickname and got really defensive when Tangle called her it once. 

Fleece instilled in Lanolin the idea that you need to sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of others which Lanolin somewhat took to heart.

Fleece let Lanolin leave to go work for the restoration (she couldn’t legally stop her) and has just been waiting for Lanolin to realize her mistake and come crawling back. 

Lanolin doesn’t hate her mother she sees it more as “she made her choices and I made mine” hating her would be a waste of energy and time in her opinion.

Despite this Lanolin hasn’t even attempted to make contact with Fleece mostly due to her not seeing the point.

Lanolin is on the spectrum but masks very hard

 Lanolin hates black coffee but everyone assumes she loves it due to her whole vibe but she actually prefers 3 creams and 2 sugars. 

To solve this she keeps a large quantity of Sugar and Cream packets in her pants pockets.

The longest Lanolin ever stayed up for was 36 hours and was only stopped by Jewel basically ordering her to go to sleep. 

Lanolin always uses her wool poofs as pillows in the rare times she actually sleeps.

Lanolin’s breakfast lunch and dinner consists of coffee and protein bars.

She takes terrible care of her wool like only shears it once it starts affecting her performance and doesn’t wash it nearly enough (it is often yellowed) 

People around her have to remind her to take care of herself Jewel finds framing it as something important to her work is most effective.

Lanolin met Maggie when she found the wisp just wandering around restoration HQ after a wild goose chase of trying to find out what Maggie needed. After some help translating from whisper It turned out the wisp was just trying to find a place to help out in the Restoration.

Maggie is pretty weak for a wisp (on top of magenta wisps already being on the lower end of the spectrum) 

To compensate for this Lanolin’s bell has to multiply her power output by a lot hence why it takes a professional to wield it. 

It took Lanolin months to learn how to use it without getting flung into the closest wall let alone effectively using it in a combat scenario. 

Maggie is extremely territorial when it comes to Lanolin and the Bell Wispon, Whispers wisps once tried settling into Lanolin’s wool poofs but were promptly kicked out by Maggie. Whispers wisp have lived in fear of Maggie ever since that point. 

Lanolin doesn’t see the Diamond Cutters as broken up she sees it as they fired and replaced her (She doesn’t blame them)

Maggie is very upset with Tangle and Whisper after their reaction to Lanolin’s apology in #76

Lanolin is an avid reader but only of informational material like city planning or just anything she doesn’t already know about.

Lanolin has absolutely sworn off of vacations after the Spiral hill party eggman attack, the white park avalanche, and the campsite fire. They all opened her eyes to the idea that something is always going to happen and she needs to be ready to deal with everything.

She has the utmost respect for Jewel not only as the Restoration director but also as someone who was there for Lanolin at her lowest point.

Lanolin has lost touch of how to be… normal in a way she doesn’t have any hobbies she doesn’t consider herself to have friends other than Maggie and maybe Jewel post 76

The only other person she really got close to was Duo she saw a lot of herself in him (which is obviously what Mimic wanted)

I only made this account to find fanart but like. I will fight to the fucking death for Lanolin. I'm not saying every Lanolin hater is an only-functionally-literate manchild with an inability to understand nuance, or complex, flawed characters, or any writing that isn't for young children, but I am saying that I have yet to see a single post by any one of them that contradicts that assessment <3

Also there doesn't actually need to be all this in-depth debate about Lanolin's merits as if she was a real person. I don't consume media like a youtube essayist, constructing giant analytical frameworks for every character I encounter.

I just like her! Lanolin is cool and tough and pretty and she's struggling a lot and I want good things for her <3 that's all <3

Throwing another one your way

What do you think Lanolin’s relationship with Sonic is like or i guess how would you write it. How far do you think her annoyance with him runs.

I think it's clear that she views him as unpredictable, chaotic, and therefore dangerous. I think that his indomitably happy-go-lucky attitude, especially after the metal virus arc, really pisses her off.

I also think that she is envious of him. She, along with basically all mobians, have gone through so much unprovoked suffering, and Sonic has the power to stop the villains causing it for good, but he never does.

That being said, I think she resents him but doesn't hate him. Like, she wouldn't kill Sonic if given the chance or anything like that. She could absolutely be manipulated to feel that way, but she definitely doesn't feel that way on her own.

What are your thoughts on the queer readings of Lanolin? Given her outcastingness, her accusations of being improperly "too aggressive" as a woman and her shift to more butch clothing as she became more prominent one could definitely make the argument that she's queercoded. What do you think about that?

I think its fucking based and awesome and I think she should be more butch and more aggressive and anyone who has a problem with her taking up space and expressing her emotions can kick rocks lmao

Alright Lanolin question time

What would she do for fun… well if she allowed fun to be a part of her life (Poor sheep) what hobbies would she have or what like idk tv would she watch stuff like that

She's so regimented its hard to imagine her allowing herself to do anything fun, so I think a way she could gradually adjust would be to find a hobby to be just as regimented and serious about. Some kind of involved, tactile hobby where she uses her hands, rather than consuming media. To that end, maybe it's a little too obvious but I really do think she could get into fancy coffee culture, real enthusiast stuff like hand-grinding the beans, brewing espresso properly, making lattes, etc. Turning this brutal, utilitarian habit into something she can be passionate about and fulfilled by.

Other options could be knitting or sewing, or some kind of textile. In general I think she would gravitate towards hobbies that involve like, producing a thing, an object, creating something with some utility. To get a little more butch with it, maybe leatherworking or even doing stuff with metal.

Maaaybe gardening? Might not be active enough for her, like the others are about directly actively building/creating something, but she could find some peace in it. I know from experience that gardening is very hard work, so it might be enough to relax her without feeling too easy. There's a fic to be had in the concept of her and Silver patching things up over developing a shared interest in gardening, but I won't be the one to write it.

Okay this is pretty out of left-field but I can also imagine a crackship between her and Wave, where she turns into a bit of a gearhead (mainly just cause I think tough mechanic lanolin would be incredibly badass)

She's very strong, so another regimented thing she might get into would be fitness, working out etc. I think she would have a tendency to push herself too hard though, like no matter what hobbies she does she gets WAY into them, like "I'm gonna get a good grade in coffee, something that is normal to want and possible to achieve."

All these hobbies would be very solitary. Maggie might help sometimes, but I think the two of them would be happy doing the "solo co-hanging out" thing where they each focus on their own thing, together.

In my made-up magical fantasy world where she has a group of friends who support and care about her, instead of, you know, going off without her to kill her manipulator without giving her the chance to get any closure (catches myself, takes a breath), she might feel a little safer doing social group activities like board games, video games etc, but even then I think she would be more subdued and in the background. I've seen some people hc that she would get serious gamer rage, but personally I don't think she would get that invested in video games. Actively interacting with others takes a lot out of her, so I think with video games she would be more likely to make a token effort to humor Tangle or whoever was insisting that she try it, then be satisfied just getting drinks and chilling on the couch while others play.
