The pacific sea continent of Pac-Land, perpetually cut in the token shape of its people. Bright and cheerful, the nation has always been home to the cleanest waters, the most nutrient-rich fruits, and holds a multitude of biomes existing in perfect harmony. Truly, any who have visited can attest to leaving healthier than they were upon arrival.
However, for everything that stood high in the sun, as we know, a shadow must be cast by it. Off the coast of Pac-Land, within the triangular cut of the otherwise circular paradise, there lie a striking counterpoint. Perfectly circular, that was easily the only redeemable quality this nightmarish island possessed. Eeking toxic miasma that polluted its coastal waters, shrouded in an otherworldly fog that rendered all black as night within, and dotted with swampy marshland that gave it a decomposing appearance from a birds-eye view, you would have to be a colossal idiot to live here.
Which is precisely why only the dead inhabited this place.
Aptly named, Ghost Island was a death sentence for anyone or anything with a pulse, save for only the most pure, tough, or confident.
Which is exactly why only Pac ever had the misfortune of being ported there regularly.
"Ugh…" The Yellow Fella rubbed his head as the light that had dropped him onto a rotted boardwalk vanished. "Yep. Yep, I had nothing else to do today. Orson!"
"You’ve reached Big Gray!" Pac’s on-off sidekick, the gray ghost Orson, chirped from the communicator in his glove’s cuff. "Judging from your elevated aggravation, I’m assuming the port was successful!"
"Yeah. And, you know, ignored the five-minute notice we agreed on?"
"Yeah, it’s fine. Welp, already here!" Pac shrugged, his smile returning. "What’s the skivvy, buddy? Spectral Monsters? Wormwood get revived? Insert new generic villain here?"
"No such luck. As it turns out, we got two new signals on the island’s grid. One alive, another most certainly dead." Orson took a moment to pause. "Oh, and here’s the part you’re gonna love. The living pickup? Small, humanoid, rounded protrusions from the back. Sound familiar?"
"…!" Pac froze a moment. "You don’t think it’d be Krystal?"
"Anything’s possible. But if it is, I figured best for you to check it out."
"It’s a long shot," Pac smiled, clenching a determined fist, "but worth checking out! I’m on it!"
